Retro-fit A/C

I have just got my hands on a 51 reg 1.4 A2. Is it possible to fit the A/c unit and front controls to it, if they were not fitted during the original assembly of the car?

If it is possible, is it something a dealer would look at?

To retrofit a/c is not cheap, over £1k I believe, and it`s not really a job for the home mechanic/faint hearted either unfortunately. A dealer would pull your pants down on price too.
