tailgate/boot wont open!

my boot on my a2 wont open...i can open it using the cord from inside, when i close the boot it wont open from the electronic release on the outside.Its so annoying. is there something i can reset if i strip the boot panel off and delve deeper? ive gone back into education, so money is tight, i cant afford the dealers so im looking at a DIY fix. any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

The lock is actuated via a link rod and solenoid so its worth removing the tailgate trim to check the wiring and link are still intact etc. More info and a pic of the tailgate (with trim removed) in this thread - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?t=9347&highlight=tailgate+open
