The quest for the highest mileage A2 and the 200K Club

A thread like this has been started before but obviously time has gone by so mileages would have increased.

I'll start the thread so that I can update the first post with the current 'winner'.

The only rules are that the car must still be on its original engine. Head work/injectors etc are fine but it must still be the original block and cylinder head.

Also, I know there would be no reason for anyone to lie but please can any claim be backed up by a photo of the speedo showing the mileage.

Current highest miler is:

Imola Yellow (TDI) at 602,000 (348,000 on original engine)

Current highest mileage on original engine

Weetank2 with 470k miles (TDI)

Great idea, Steve. :)

What do you think about a register like the German club has (here)? Could A2OC do something similar? If you didn't want to maintain it, I'd be more than happy to. :)

I'm on a mere 121k. :p

Regards,

Matt. :)

How about we also list all cars on this thread that have done over 200,000 miles to dmonstrate that the A2 really can go the distance? We still look for the highest mileage but it will be interesting to see how many have topped the 200K, I am sure there are a LOT of them.

But 280,000 will take some beating.

So far we know Depronman is at 280k, and takers for more than that?

Ha ha great idea for a bit of fun - I like it...
Even better to be at the top of the leader board, just wish I was responsible for the 280,000 miles, but that was down to the two previous owners, first one clocked 95,000 in the first 2 years then second owner put the rest of the 280,000 on over the next 13 years.
The A2 came my way because the clutch or more precisely the clutch release bearing finally gave up and owner No 2 was not prepared to repair it (he bought an Audi A1 TDI to replace the A2)
Just for a bit more fun, assuming my current average MPG so far it as used 4,308 gallons of diesel (or 19,193 litres) which is at least 640 fill up (assuming used until fuel light came on)
Taking an average cost of fuel per litre over the age of the A2 at £1.15 per litre it as cost around £21,000 in fuel alone which I'm sure will be rather more than the A2 cost new
Looking forward to the next 280,000 miles - I can't see any reason why it will not happen excluding the A2 getting written off :(
It starts on the first turn of the engine, actually I don't think it turn over one rev on the starter before starting, uses no oil that I can detect on the dip stick, does not smoke at all and returns 60 to 65 MPG - whats not to like :)

In answer to you both, shall we also post everyone who has hit 200k?

Can one of you edit the thread title to add 'and the 200k club' to the end?

Ok

So my grandson's A2 is on the 200K list I guess, at 230,000 miles with no major faults at all, no smokey engine or rattles etc. Just some lacqer peel (it is red!) now sorted.

Please can I ask for a photo of your speedo to claim your top spot?

I spotted one a few years back appearing in my mums street that looked super clean - it was a 2003 dolphin grey in own condition, I knocked on the door of the house to share my A2 admiration with the owner and we got chatting about the car, it was a girl in her 20s and the car was originally her dads. The mileage (this was back in 2011) was up to 260,000miles back then which I just found amazing - I'm sure it's well past 325K now - great little cars and engines

Mine is up to 237,000 will sort a picture
Hi,

Did you realise that our cars with that sort of mileage have driven the equivalent of from here to the surface of the moon? (the distance slightly varies of course but at 230,000 miles it is more than enough!)

I think it is also approximately the same as 10 times around the world too!!!

The shocking figure is the number of times the pistons have gone up and down in that time.

For example (and it is no exact science) if you travel at 60 MPH at lets say 3000 rpm. that is 3000 times a mile.

Multiply 3,000 times 230,000 and that is how many times your pistons have gone up and down (in fact it is a lot more because in lower gears it is more revs and LOTS of time ticking over.

That is SIX HUNDRED AND NINETY MILLION TIMES (If I am not mistaken and I am happy to be corrected)
Metal to metal (lubricated of course but still metal to metal!!)

WOW!

Vonnie's TDI has 172k miles and my FSI has 161k miles with original clutch/gearbox and exhaust-still returns an average of 50mpg each week in the summer. The storm has 106k. I'm hoping to click over 220k in the FSI as it had 20k when i got it and i have never added 200k before.

I bought my a2 almost 8 years ago with 38,000 on the clock and now it's nearly hit 160000 :) it's lucky if it does 10 miles a week now I have the campervan project tho :(

Our 1.4TDI (currently being used by younger son while we're in New Zealand) clocked up 200,000 last August, but don't think it's much further on this year.
