This May Come as a Shock!!

Well, to those that know me, this probably will come as a shock - a big one. I've just done a deal today to PX my black VFR800 V-Tec for this

VFR1200RE11YGM02_zps7771f125.jpg

That's right, a white one!!

As most of my VFR riding is commuting and semi-urban based, I thought it time to become a bit more visible and what better way that to ride a big white bike. It's amazing how many drivers actually move out of the way when they see you in their mirrors now - I wonder if they're mistaking me for the constabulary?

Anyway, I collect in around a week or so - happy days!

I have mixed views; saddened/angered that you (feel) you have to do this because of peoples' lack of observation on the one hand, on the other I completely understand because of what's at stake. Anyhow, new shiny :p:cool:

I can understand having a big white bike. Mine used to be a BMW R80RT and I happened to wear a white full face Shoei. Cars used to behave when I approached them. Point made. They were very much aware of me. Everyone's happy and safe.

Nice one Mike, but some people are still blind or deliberately move over to bloke you as they feel just because they have sit in traffic so should you. I've got a white scooter for work i wear a high viz and a white helmet and some move over and some have gone out of their way to try to stop me coming through

Phil

Unfortunately, I've found that Audi drivers tend to be the worst at blocking - especially the Q cars!

I may have some hi-viz applied for the winter months, to go with my hi-viz fluoro helmet. "POLITE" jacket may be a step too far though Russ!

Crass generalisation and type casting. Harumph! :p

Sorry mate; after the slagging I got for the white A3 - your credibility is shot now. (Very nice bike sir)

Cheers, Murdi ( Road hog Q Menace)

As an ex motorcyclist I can fully understand why Mike. Even 30+ years ago I recall having fitted a full white fairing to my MZ along with wearing a blue helmet and outfit brought a sudden improvement in road manners from car drivers.....although in those days it was often Volvo drivers who were the culprits....

The gentle chiding that you got over the white A3 was because you'd specifically bought a Black Edition, but it was white! If you're going to do Black Edition, do it properly like my TT!

Adrian, you'll be pleased to know that Volvos are still the natural enemy of the motorcyclist by and large.

That's a lovely bike! I have enjoyed motorcycles up to 50 years old! When I was young, the largest capacity bike was a Royal Enfield Constellation at 700cc (Although there was a Munch Mammot? with a car engine fitted?) Anyway, guess what the c.c. of this bike is?

Now that is amazing!

Yes, I thought that might be in your line David. It's a Triumph Rocket 3 - 3 cylinder (just like the A2 TDi) but at 2.3 litres, much bigger than the A2. How they only get 140bhp from the engine is shameful and at 30-ish mpg, it needs all of its huge fuel tank to get to places.

Might make sense in America where corners are scarce and fuel is cheap, but in the UK? No thanks - I'll take my V4, 50mpg flappy-paddled Honda!

Probably done for safety! Isn't there an upper limit for motorcycles? All show and no go!

Nope - there was a gentlemans agreement a few years ago that 100bhp was a sensible limit, but just as in the car world, where makers limited their cars to 155mph, this went by the wayside very quickly - there's bikes putting out nearly 200bhp now (BMW S1000RR @ 193 and Ducati Panigale @ 195bhp).

I'd love to be able to support and buy a Triumph as a UK biker, supporting a UK maker, but unfortunately, their bikes are still quite poorly executed.

Cheers,

Mike

One of my awaiting restoration products is similar to the above. Two cylinder in-line engine, overhead cam and shaft/worm drive (which overheated) and British! There the comparisons cease! That was poorly executed as well. You're supposed to change the timing chain every 2000 miles!

What is it?

It has quite a bit more carbon on it now......but no sunny pictures :(

"POLITE" jacket may be a step too far though!

I have to say that the people I've seen with these have been some of the worst riders (of horses as well) I've happened across, I think they start to believe the illusion and think they have magical powers. I really can't imagine you ride like that, I'm just thinking pleeease don't become [Denis Norden]one of those people[/Denis Norden]
By a similar token, drivers who slow 10mph under the speed limit as soon as they anything stripey - motorway maintenance, private security vans, Highways agency patrols, anything - are irritating as well, if they can't tell the difference they're still not observing properly

Are we looking at something BSA-like Rab?

Hooley - I can appreciate the 916 - designed by the same chap who also did my sunny day bike - my gorgeous MV Agusta Brutale 990R.

Nuttinnew, I ride in a spirited fashion - always making progress, because mostly, I have somewhere to be. However, I'm not a nutter and a 'Polite' jacket is not on my to-do list. I ride with headlamps on and in winter, I've a dayglo yellow Arai that helps to make me stand out.
