Today I.....

There’s definately something very classy about pine green with twist leather.

Today I accept winter is on he way and as such the pepperpot wheels with Michelin cross climates on the front are on. Also replaced the Bush that sits at the bottom of the rear spring. Should have done it at the same time as the springs but unwittingly only ordered one.
Just had mine put on. The Michelin crossclimates do give a much harder ride than my summer tyres (Goodyear Efficientgrips).

I had 17" wheels with Yokohama tyres which are old and have very little give so they feel plush.
The Crossclimate only seem to be available at the moment as XL rated though sometimes you do see non XL available.

Today I discovered that Gracie’s developed an unpleasant vibration… it‘s low frequency, most noticeable through the steering wheel, and comes on when accelerating from 50 to 60 regardless of what gear I’m in. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it’s something as innocent as a wheel weight that’s gone missing so going to get my wheels balanced at my local independent tyre place (where they know the A2’s jacking points) first thing tomorrow. I’m hoping this will fix it but not overly optimistic as I’m worried about it being more prevalent under acceleration than at a steady cruise, but it’s something I need to rule out I guess before getting on the phone to Gary (B&F autos). Other thoughts what these symptoms might indicate welcome… it surely can’t be the DMF as it was replaced 9 months and a few 000 miles ago at WOM.

Gary has finally looked at this today, and even though (bizarrely) the vibration is much less bad now, he was on the phone this afternoon to tell me what it was. So, to those of you who said it was a failing CV joint, 5 points 🙂.

Having a better day arthritis wise, I started work on the new to me TDi. Addressing the rear brakes which have been mentioned in the last three MOTs.
Offside Strip down went ok except found a goosed bearing and leaking cylinder ☹️.
Problem found; the adjuster was fixed in position. Brake dust and hard copper grease by the look of it., All cleaned off, new shoes fitted. Cylinder and hub from GSF tomorrow. Hope the old cylinder and brake pipe are not welded, well cleaned and plusgassed overnight fingers crossed.
ECP seem to have stopped doing discount?

As of late this morning that's two clean MOT passes in two weeks and services completed for my pair of A2's, very happy with that. Confirming my suspicions, the Crystal one is going to need a new alternator pulley, and has also eaten the end of its dipstick - as they do :) The dipstick (part number 8Z0115611E) has not long gone obsolete with Audi, but there are still some genuine new ones on eBay, albeit pricier than they used to be.

@depronman can print you a new dipstick end that will last longer than the original.

I know, and I'll be going there with the next one that goes on either of the fleet. By then I most likely won't be able to fulfil my preference for OEM for this part at even a semi-reasonable cost. It's great that we have a solution in our community 👍

Today I took Ethel in for a long overdue free tracking check at Kwik Fit. Despite having new shocks, track rod ends, drop links etc she was set up perfectly which saved me £67 on any adjustments. Happy with that. :)

That's good you've had good experience with KF, but I avoid them since they messed up my last MOT, my A2 was almost a write-off after their test.
Then I took it to another garage and it cost me £120. I'm sure as a big company those garages can differ, but it put me off big time using them ever again.

Agree with Sylvester.
You were lucky.

....I discovered that the new (secondhand ) 15" wheels I fitted to the front axle had different tyre sizes
175/60 R15 one side 176/65 R15 on the other !

Still the benefit to ride comfort from the original 16" wheels has been remarkable.

Best replace an axle set with a decent pair

You thinking of winter tyres or all-seasons?

Yes, I've taken the plunge for a new pair of all season tyres : - Goodyear Vector 4 G2

Who knows, I might even get around to finally fitting the new 15" wheels to the back as well this weekend - see photo above !

I think I've lost several days after entering the rabbit hole that is tyre choice ! Initially I was set on the Cross climates, then I struggled to find any non Xl load tyres for the 15" wheel size and ended up with the Goodyear's 175/65 R15 84T . If it all works out the Speedo should just be within tolerance....
