Today I.....

Clocked just over 1500 miles since installing the ProBoost in Betty (Blue)

500 of which was a fast run at the weekend of nearly to Falmouth and back. Averaged 52 and a bit mpg via M25, M4 (convoy ish part of the way with a Silver FSI with stickers on boot and fuel flap. Anyone, Anyone, Bueller?, M5 & A30). Return via A30, A303 (spirited), M3 & M25. Full round trip 48ish mpg. Not bad and was running beautifully

Specifically today

Drove the 15 odd miles over to see my Dad on his 94th Birthday & delivered just the essentials (nice and unusual wine & a card)

My reward? 1st FSI EML  on start up after sitting for 45mins, ignition off and restart. Starts fine, idles fine, responds fine, engine may nothing obvious amiss....

Ginger drive, more than fine. Decide to gently get back to my place and put on VCDS

Saved & cleared the codes. Have not done a search for P1364 yet, nor restarted.

Let's see what tomorrow brings & hopefully not two sickly FSI's

Update - No EML

Two restarts, short run to shop and back, so engine not fully warm

Thinking it is maybe a heat soak / aging component thing, resulting in possibly higher resistance than ECU liked?

From previous history, coil pack life span seems to be 15-20k miles. Is this in-line with others experience?

Is the consensus to change after X years and / or Y miles. I really don't like the let it fail, break down and deal with it later approach to maintenance if there is a well documented and understood service life on a component

Currently fitted with 4x Bosch coil packs (made in Turkey, as per the brand new set for the Silver FSI). They are somewhat dusty and dirty but otherwise look good. Wiring visually looks ok, but not tested. 85.5k miles & they would have been run very hot for near 2x sets of 5 hours at the weekend without break

Reciept in file for all 4x CPs 8th September 2018
Invoice for an oil change 2nd October 2018 at 65k miles
20k miles on the current CPs
AA Callout to EML & misfire. Bill for 3x Bosch CP's - Feb 2014
51k Miles

Checked the coils I pulled off the silver car 2x Chinese scrap & 2x Delphi CE20030 (KX08G) packs which look pretty new, but no known long term history

Run it and see what happens for a couple of weeks as full service is due imminently in the next 6 weeks anyway?

Others, way more knowledgeable please chip in ref lifespan of CPs

All VAG coil packs produced during the late 90s, and early 00s, are known to fail, many were replaced under warranty. Later, post 2003/04, (don't know exactly), were better.
Coil packs have hard life, very high voltage, and very hot location.
Any petrol car, especially an FSI, with misfires, coil packs should be first part to be replaced. Only the best will do, Bosch, NGK, Denso, my choice. Never cheap, odd, or the unknown brands.
You'll get an EML on your FSI, if a dodgy coil pack is within a 5 mtr radius, heaven forbid actually fitted 😯.

Refreshed the ARB bush and droplink on the drivers side. Required removing the knackered plastic collar and fitting a Febi 27638 bush (18mm diameter, 16mm inner). Thanks to those who've done this before and recommended going for a 16mm bush. Is a jubilee clip on the outer side of the bush recommended? I'm not clear on that one.

Meyle MSL0751 droplink went on with less of a fuss.

Passenger side awaits, if it ever stops raining.

Zero misfires in 1500 miles since PBoost installed, and after checking the pre swap logs also no misfires

🫡 sounds like it’s time or nearly time to buy another set of Bosch CPs (& plugs)

Bought Bosch plugs for the silver FSI, & after purchase I read a thread that X Plug (Denso maybe) was as high or more highly regarded than Bosch

I run Bosch coil packs, and NGK plugs.
Make sure you get the correct triple electrode plugs.
NGK: ZFR6S-Q
The error shows as cylinder 4 ignition circuit open circuit, so either coil pack or wiring.
May have been historic.

I've just ordered rear B6 Bilstein dampers from Autodoc but not managed to source the top or bottom bolts.
Do these need changing and if so what spec and where do we find them nowadays ?
Sam
Good Afternoon Sam,

You have two good answers from Dave and Steve but I will add some points.

I bought new top mounts, maybe not needed but pursuing a policy of replace everything. The rear top mount I bought was Febi which came with bolts but for some reason I forget I bought SKF for the front which did not come with bolts. For these bolts I am using LLL Parts and for other bits and pieces. Both dampers come with nut on top.

As for spec if you search with the Audi part numbers the spec should be correct.

The front pinch bolts are the real problem to find except at extortionate prices, a 78mm part threaded bolt is a big ask I might have have to reuse coupled with a new nut as these are locking nuts and single use.

Seeing as you are an FSI guru , that’s recommendation enough for me

As a Guru, I can levitate too.
Spent the last few hours levitating a bucket of "stuff" from the sewer that runs front to back of Chateau Mac.
Drain rods and hose pipe also in play. Blockage cleared, bucket now empty.
The MoT was a good start to the day, went a bit downhill from there.

Thanks Andy,

I'm just doing the rear dampers initially. Where do you find the definitive Audi part numbers for suspension bolts?

Good Afternoon Sam,

For part numbers the A2OC Bible is 7zap but LLL Parts is good.

Save to Favourites/Bookmark this link it is invaluable.

Delve within and the relevant page is

There is endless threads/posts on suspension here on the club site, the main one is

... and this post by Robin is useful

For your rear suspension refresh as I said top bolts come with the Febi kit if you replace the strut top mount and you have link for the bottom bolt and nut but you may choose to reuse the bolt if it is serviceable but do replace the nut - it is a single use locking nut.

Today I attempted to change my air con G65 High pressure sensor, behind the front bumper.
I did manage the loosen the original with a spanner (17mm FYI), but it was not easy, and I think I was lucky. I don't know how others do this without taking the bumper off, so if you are attempting it, make sure you can get some purchase to loosen it, and then you can get your (skinny) hand in their to take it off. There is a valve to stop the gas escaping.

HOWEVER. Beware many, many sellers on eBay where the listing claims it is suitable for an A2. These are incorrect. I bought one from my usual ebay provider, but it does not fit. A lot (if not all) of photo A have an imperial thread of just over M11. They don't fit. You need an M10 x 1.25 threaded item, which from what I can see, tend to be of a different shape, a Mahle example is in Photo B.

Others may have more detail, but it is easy to get the incorrect part (1K0 959 126 E).

I now have to source a part that will fit, and of course, they are double the price (£30+), and it is not likely to help my issue, but I will give it a try.

Hopefully the Mahle part will fit....or I will try Photo C from Germany

This looks like it, it's Denso, and a bit less expensive than the Audi part. Opie suggest contacting them to make sure, so I'd do that.
