Hi Folks,

Just wanted to get your opinions on the VW Touareg, especially if you've heard any bad warranty issues etc.

Test driving the 2.5tdi Sport on Saturday, with an eye to purchase.
Basically we fancy something 4x4ish (just cos we've never had one before) and we both like the Touareg looks.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Cheers

I know 'JC' really slated it. The demo he was given had a number of quality issues which of course he used to rip into it. But no doubt it was an early model so issues should be sorted by now!

The honest john website is always a good place to pop up questions like this-its very well used.

I like them too... the 2,5 is not the most refined of diesel engines but it is a 5 cylinder and thus makes a GREAT noise to me... I love the sound of a good five! Make sure you can see through the windscreen! LOL yes sounds funny but VW knows that both Touareg and Pheaton windscreens have major quality flaws in them with lots of imperfections and ripples... but that is about it AFAIK.

Not going for the V10? - now that is a GREAT sounding engine.

1.4 Petrol Special Edition, Ebony Black, grey leather, heated seats, climate, opensky, five spoke alloys for SWMBO (Replaced a 2002 1.4 Petrol SE) Honda Accord Tourer 2.2 iCDTi for me.

You can nearly buy TWO 2,5 litre Tourags for the price of ONE V10!!!

I have not heard of any major Touareg flaws over here.... Just that for off-road stuff, the V10 is too heavy in front and that all the reviewers are really liking the 3.0-V6-diesel that´s just out now (but unfortunately, is nearly EUR 2500 more expensive than the 5-cylinder). I have not driven either of those, just had a Cayenne Turbo for one evening (much to the delight of my local gas station)..:)

Bye, Frido.

Thanks Johann. Was thinking you'd have some good info.

V10 sounds great, but budget will be stretched past the limit on the 2.5tdi as it is. Like the idea of the 3.0 V6 tdi, however with the options we would like the price is a bit too high.

Frido,

We like the Cayenne (obviously), however all the used examples here in the UK are specced up, so prices are too high, that plus couldn't bear the fuel costs.

Another question: When do you think VW might facelift the Touareg? its about 18 months old, so I am guessing another 18 months. I spoke to the 'luxury car manager' at my local VW today and he said VW are not planning anything at the moment. Dont really believe this, as it takes a couple of years planning just to introduce a facelift, but I guess thats VW UK info he is refering too.

Thanks for all your replies.

Cheers

About the Cayenne: I like the Toureg interiour better than the Cayenne one, looks fairly cheap in some places, and we took the Cayenne from Nuremberg to Munich Airport (about 180km´s of Autobahn) and the car needed about 25 liters for 100km, which comes to about 9.8 mpg, if I am correct...

As far as I have read, VW is really not releasing anything about a Touareg facelift at the moment, the current model sells very good and they are busy with the Golf plus/Passat/Bora-launches....
I think they will update the Touareg sometime in the middle of next year (maybe together with Audi releasing its flavor of the Touareg platform (Q7?)..

Bye, Frido.
