Transporting things...

Hah! The 'Hitting things' topic made me think of another nice list:

What's the most ridiculous or awkward thing you have ever transported (or tried to fit) in your A2 ??

My kick-off is very recent. That's because I started rebuilding the interior of my new house (see http://www.pbase.com/edni/tweeboomlaan) And that causes a lot of trash, all of which I have to transport to the municipal dump. Or I move things from my own home to my new, like the first one

- about 1.5 cubic metres (rear seats removed, front seat down) of planks, wood (lots of oak), board, and two 18mm 240x122cm sheets of plywood on the roof. That weighed my A2 down!
- another 1.5 cubic metres of plastic ceiling boards, all cut to a length of 130cm. Filled the back (without seats) to the roof.
- 8 big bags of plasterboard debris and several bags of rockwool isolation.

Needless to say that my A2 currently looks like a white bomb exploded in the back. White marks all over the trim and shattered wood and plastic lying around the back. I doubt if many A2 owner ever abused their A2 like this ;)

So how about you guys?

Cheers,

Edo

Worst we have had inside was my mountain bike - took the last A2 in to get some chips done and it saved the other half coming to pick me up. Just took it out, put the wheels back on and rode home!

Generally the building debris goes in mine - its bigger and we don't own it!

Great pictures Edo. Really enjoyed looking through them. It was like 'Changing Rooms' without that anoying cow Smiley Smiley Carol Smiley. (Not bad to look at though!)
Dont forget to post some later photo's. I'm hooked now.

Thanks Scott! It's my intention to keep updating of course, but frequency could go down to fortnightly sometimes. A house like this keeps you busy....
Laurence Llewelyn Bowen in CR and Nick Knowles in DIY SOS are something to be reckoned with too, btw ;)

With the front seat's back rolled all the way down, I suppose?
I had 3 doors, each measuring 78x201x4cm, inside like that. Diagonally was the only way and it was a tight fit indeed.
Matresses are similarly sized (as 3 doors together), but are far more lightweight.

Strange how an A2 can fit things like this, but that you cannot seem to fit a bike (with front wheel attached) into it!

Grrr... yes that is one of my biggest gripes as well! Hence me resorting to a Thule roof rack on an Open Sky roof! Not the best idea I know!

Look at this great gadget I saw in the back of a VW Touareg at the Paris Motor Show last year:

And it just clipped into the exact same chrome hooks we already have in our A2s! Pity our cars are too short!

Thanks Jeff, I guess I am more of a builder than you are ;)

In the light of 'transporting things' I'd like to point out that last Friday I hauled about 450 kilos of concrete chimney blocks to our local dump. Great fun, bad for car. Only had to do 6 km or so!

Bad night time picture from a camera phone but this is a Billy book case for my brother from IKEA: it measures 2020mm x 820mm by however thick... Had to obviously take the left rear seat out and wind the front passenger seat right down to fit it in... but it went! Just had a tiny bit of sponge between it and the dashboard.

One of the first things I transported in my A2 was one of those 202x80 Billy bookcases.... my rear seat´s upper leather corners still have some marks from it...:-(

On holiday to the Vendee in France we had 6 person tent, 27 litre electric coolbox, 4 sleeping bags & normal full sized pillows, 2 sailbags of clothes, 2 single burner cookers with 6 cans of gas, gas lamp, 4 inflatable airbeds & electric pump, power cables (100metres) & connection box, 4'x12' windbreak, 2 rucksacks full of kids things (cd players games dolls etc), 2 adults & 2 children, in the roof box went 2'x4' collapsable table, 4 chairs, pots pans, water carrier, football, badminton set, tennis raquets & balls.
On the way home all this plus 35 bottles of wine & 36 large cans on beer (well the coolbox was empty) We even got 60+mpg with this lot in and managed to get from Vendee back to Manchester without a fill up, I was very impressed. And people say this is a small car, couldn't have got that into an A4 I'll bet. It wouldn't have all fitted into my previous car a Honda Accord
