Turbo problem?

Hi all

Engine mgmt light came on the other day. Today while driving at 70ish car seemed to lose power and I could hear a repeated clicking from up front. Carried on journey at lower speed and on way home light was still on and the car seemed down on power, as if the turbo is not blowing, although the clicking noise never came back.

Car is a tdi 90.

Any ideas what problem might be? I like to have an idea of problem before going to the garage!

In addition to a blown hose there are a few things which could be wrong. Split aftercooler cores are not uncommon and on the TDi 90 engine, the variable vane mechanism inside the turbo can stick - see link posted by ecoangel for more info on the turbo problem - http://www.technologie-entwicklung.de/Gasturbines/VNT15-Turbo/vnt15-turbo.html

thx both replies

drove to shops earlier and light now off again and power seems back; although it feels a little slower than usual the turbo is definately blowing. Very curious.

I read the threads on hose so may well have a look at them tomorrow, otherwise it's off to the garage I suppose.
