Vacuum tubing?

Image0090.jpg

Hi all.... found a short length of vacuum tubing that is attached to the left hand end of the fuel rail (1.4 petrol, left hand arrow in picture).... it is about 6 inches long, however i cannot find anything within that range (or elsewhere) that it could attach to.... any ideas? (cuurently suffering with an intermittant EML, scan tomorrow)

Cheers,

Simon.

Simon is only asking about the item in the left arrow, the tube on the right is just a breather and although it has not got its filter connected this tube does not connect to anything.

I don't personally know what the left one is connected to, so any help for Simon would be appreciated.

Simon, the tube on the left is fitted between the fuel rail pressure relief valve - that's the little barrel shaped canister - and the vacuum hose just below it. This is used to return fuel to the tank when the fuel pressure in the fuel rail reaches its upper limit. There is a solid plastic pipe connected on either end by a flexible braided tube.

Hope this helps.

Thanks hotstuff, thanks for identifying the pressure relief valve... the vacuum tubing to this (solid plastic tube about 6 inches long with flexible braided tubing each end) is connected to the pressure relief valve but the other end is not connected to anything.... i guess it should be connected to the vacuum system somewhere, but i cannot find where!

Cheers

Simon.

I found this picture in another thread about a fuel leak on a 1.6 fsi.... i don't know if the 1.4 is the same basic design but the tubing that has come adrift on mineFuelPipesBAD.jpg is part number 10 and it looks like it attaches to the lower side of the inlet manifold.... i'll go and have another look at mine and see if i can feel any attachments on the underside of the inlet manifold.

Hi,

the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator should connect to the inlet manifold on the left side (from the front).

regards

Andrew

Found it! Part of a sensor assembly on the left hand side....reattached... code check tomorrow, hopefully resolve the power loss/EML issues i've been having...

Thanks and regards to all,

Simon.

Hopefully that will be the cause, I would imagine that this would weaken the fuel air mixture due to the vacuum leak, that in itself would lead to misfires and possibly cause the EML light.

Although since it is now reattached you may notice the difference straight away, as you have said it seemed ok when cold (the extra fuel injected when cold compensating for the extra air)

Did it not improve the running?

Seems better at tickover (less hunting when warm), EML light still on, didn't take it for a drive as i've had too much of the red stuff.... (hiccup)

Will update tomorrow...

Sounds promising, The EML light will only go off after the fault has been cleared (or perhaps after several starting cycles?) so you may have solved the problem.

I hope so !!!!

Looking forward to hearing good news tomorrow!!!

If the garage you are taking it to are not A2 specialists, watch out for misinformed advice !!
