@Andrew
I must say, I expected more members to sign up.
I guess the question is why have many members who have scanning facilities decided not to offer them formally, to other members.
Maybe it's a privacy/security concern. Anyone like to clarify please?
Mac.
Apologies for the slow response I have been busy on other thing the last few days and thanks for you comment.
I am not surprised but numbers have crept up a little since you posted, I am happy enough at this stage.
Yes lots of members with some form of scanning kit have not come forward. I am getting a few indications why not, lack of expertise is one repeated, but I do stress nothing more than a free scan is expected, if a member is confident on offering more it is up to them.
As I have mentioned I think VCDS in the title is putting off members with other kit, I think I will change it but I have had no comment on this, any reliable scanning kit will suffice.
One helpful PM contained the phrase 'all and sundry arriving on my doorstep'. In response, all; I would be surprised if anyone receives more than one request a year, if that, while they must be members to PM, a suggestion of 'hiding' the register in the Marketplace so it is not visible to the world at large has merit, comments anyone?
More importantly I do stress there is no obligation to accept a request for a scan, it may not be immediately convenient e.g. new baby, but I will add anyone offering can always vet a request, click their avatar for background and refuse iif not happy, Indeed if I have a request from a new member, joined today, zero posts I will not be available, the hard disc on my laptop will mysteriously crash and leave me with no scanning facility! Waiting for my son to donate an old laptop but he will not be visiting for several months! However any new member who has posted an intro thread which seeks advice on faults they have come across will be welcome, fact it is probably such new members to which the register will be most useful but not always.
I can think of several other misgivings, e.g. Irregularly working away from home to not be feasible. Any comments here or by PM welcome.
Thanks to members who have recently added theirs name.
I intend to publish the register later next week, still undecided how to chop up the UK geographically, it's not easy here in Oxford we are nowhere! varies, sometimes Central, sometimes Thames Valley, South, South West.??? Europe is easy, Luzt is covering that by himself!
