VCDS / VAG COM Cable

I have just come across this site

They sell cables that allow full access to rosstech vcds 10.6 but for only £80 compared to the norm of £260 for a legit one.

The site seems legitimate so I've emailed them for more info before I buy one.
If they do work its a true bargain

Thanks for the link. I'll watch this thread with interest.

ps. do you know how different that cable is to the AUTEL MAXSCAN VAG405 hand-held scanner for ~£50? ie. are there some faults that need a full vag-com cable to read?

Thanks.

I contacted this lot and they have assured me I will get Full functionality from Ross tech VCDS 10.6, latest version etc. using one of these cables.

They state

"We now specialise in the sale and support of VCDS (formally known as VAG-COM) CAN-HEX-USB diagnostic cables which are fully compatible with the latest versions of Ross Tech's VCDS software, versions 908, 908.1, 912, and 10.6. Our cables and software work with all VAG vehicles from 1994 to 2011. Our cables are made to the same specification as the official Ross Tech cable, and work exactly the same giving you fully registered access to all modules and features of VCDS 10.6 while being only a quarter of the price of the official cable"

Thanks for the update. £80 is a fair price :) My local garage charge £40 just to read and reset fault codes. 2 scans and I'm quids in!

I've heard that RossTech are taking legal action against this company so be aware you may end up only being able to use the early 'light' software with it.

As you may appreciate, most of the cost of the genuine cable goes into the software development so if no-one buys the genuine article there will eventually be no VagCom diagnostics.

We all like a bargain but in this case I think the A2oc should not promote this company in any way so I'll remove the link

Cheers Spike

On the contrary. If ross-tech lowered the price more people would buy there legit software n cable. If they sold more units they would have more users to help feedback info n labels etc back into the software thus aiding development.

the only way Ross tech can stop cloning is to not make there software freeware as the cables are not protected. Then users would have to buy the software rather than cable n no one would bother making cheapo copies.
