I wouldn't think the aircon not working would effect the webasto.

VCDS Test run of the webasto, do an output test first to check all is working and that there are no fault codes.

Self test

Controller 18
Basic settings
Select Group 22
Press go, this should fire up the webasto, *remember there is no pump so advisable to have the engine running if you are going to have it running for any length of time*

You can switch to measuring blocks 001 002 and 003 to see voltages etc .

Note, if you get the start up bit wrong or it doesn't start and you want to try again you might need to come out of the controller and back in again
thanks alot, I'll try this tmr or saturday and report bk.

So its like this in the Funktionsrahmen and I think in VCDS.

x0000000 - Ambient temperature not too high
0x000000 - Driver request (CAN bus signal from Climatronic)
00x00000 - Coolant temperature, air temperature or ECU output stage defective
000x0000 - Engine start delay active
0000x000 - Engine speed too low
00000x00 - Battery Voltge too low
000000x0 - Alternator Error / Load too high
0000000x - Engine Temperature sufficient

Going off the flow diagrams in the FR, all values must be 0 for the Webasto to start, but going off the explanation the FR gives, all values must be 0, except x0000000 which must be 1. Not sure which one is right, someone can test :)

Anyway, regardless of that 0x000000 is 1 on both of @steveb screenshots, meaning the Climatronic is inhibiting the Webasto. That happens when the ambient temperature is above 10 degrees, ECON is on, and when certain fault codes are stored potentially

really useful info, many thanks

ok so had a look last weekend and ... used basic settings 22, 33, also output tests. I could hear fan and webasto diesel pump clicking but no noticeable webasto start there. When went to check for errors...01415 Recirculating Pump (V55) is shown...thought there is no pump around webasto in A2 model. When looking on Webasto status in Engine Ecu measuring blocks I could see changes in Webasto status like 11011000, 11010000, 11000000,

Okay like Steve, in all situations you are limited by climatronic, but the heater should still start with VCDS. What is the coding of the heater in VCDS?

Soft coding is showing 0002, tday Ive checked errors too and could see 01412 'implausible glow plug signal' there, would this mean glowplug need replacement? I do have spare Webasto from my VW T5 so hope it will be same part....can this be done without taking whole unit out?
