what size are the main beam lamps eg H3 or H7

sorry to ask such a daft question, but im looking to upgrade the headlights on my 2001 TDI SE, I know the Dipped beam is H7, but what is the Main, some websites say H3 and others say H1 or H7

Hi John

They should be H3's but I also found some literature which called up H1's. If you can be bothered to take the bonnet off, a yellow sticker on top of the headlamp casing is just visible and this shows the bulbs used - this is one I prepared earlier

cheers Spike, I will have a look when i replace the Dips - ihave already orders some H7's for those.

a bit arse backwards i know but at least i wont waste any hard earned on the wrong size.

mainbeam bulbs

Hi John, my A2 is a 1.4 petrol 2001 reg (march reg) the mainbeam are h1 with just the one terminal connection wire,just upgraded mine,the h7 are twin terminal connection,
