When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a fighter pilot, far from that now.

What about you?

For some strange reason, I wanted to be an architect or a barrister.[8)]

But it soon dawned on me that I would have to do loads more studying and college to go down that road. Probaly explains how I'm now working down a paper mill, knee deep in smelly pulp, trying to wire up motors or getting covered in hydraulic oil from another ruptured pipe:(.

On the plus side, if I ever get annoyed I can curse 'till the cows come home and hit things with hammers very hard. How do architects or barristers de-stress at a moments notice[?]

I too wonder what happened. I think I became a little conscious of the danger of being a fighter pilot when the gulf war hit. I soon changed direction then to end up now an IT manager.

The only way I get to destress now is to punch my laptop screen and watch it try to recover, I can also play with my balls (stress balls that is)!

Reminds me of my Grandad who used to work up London for one of the banks. Many a time he'd come home in the evening after having an exrtended liquid lunch.

Bosses these days seem to take a grim view of that type of thing - unless it's just in my line of work. Alcohol and 11,000 volts, hmmm [2]

Yes that's true. The alcohol culture did stop before I retired from career No1, but was still present in career No2. It was a real team builder, but obviously had a serious downside. Whilst 11,000 volts and alcohol dont mix, I am aware of professional drivers who are regularly pi***d. I was an electrician in the Royal Navy, I returned aboard from a very boozy run ashore in Ostend to be told as I boarded the ship that the boiler room was on fire and to get down there immediately. I was immediately sober, really. I still can't understand it and certainly would not recommend it. I must have been Ok because we put the fire out, and it was serious enough to put us in dockyard for a major electrical re-fit, melted cables, gennys etc. Swing the lamp Jack!!
