Where can I get the “pin locking retainer” (8Z0 837 257)?

The “pin locking retainer” (8Z0 837 257) on one of the doors appears to have cracked, causing the door to only shut with a firm tug.

Where can I get this part? Is it the same as this one here for a Bentley Continental GT ??

If that is the pin that connects the check strap arm to the A pillar (and it does look like that picture) then I have some and will pop one in the post to
Just cover the postage which will be about £1.50

Cheers. Paul

Thanks, I’ll also put up a picture of the damage to make sure.

Would have thought small parts like that would easily be available new.

You gotta remember this is now a 17 year old (since last ones sold new) vehicle and the dealers only support a car to 10years or just after

If I was you I'd buy the Bentley part for just under £117 quid each before VAT - it's bound to make your doors close more smoothly.

:)

What tends to happen is a specialist will buy all of the left over stock in the main dealers
This then gets sold to the few who are restoring / running the cars
With vag cars this is all handled with audi tradition, but at the moment Audi tradition will not deal with the uk (since brexit) so we are effectively left with two options
1) parts from end of life cars which are broken, see A2steve or clackers and other on here that break end of life cars and enable some parts to live on in our ally chariots
2) refurbish / remanufacture parts, I am fairly deeply involved involved in this for the A2 eg door check straps, wiper arms, fuel drain screws, open sky motor mounts, dozens of plastic 3D printed parts plus lots of other parts

Here are some pictures.

As you can see I found it with the pin only going in about half way. I think this is because the pin is larger than hole on the arm?

Can I hit it into place or has someone put in the wrong size pin?

Morning,

I personally have only swapped the door check straps a few times but have always had to use a drift to remove the pin and had to assist it’s refit with a tap from the hammer.

From the picture it certainly looks to be the correct pin. If I was in the same situation I would be getting the tool of persuasion out to assist.

I’m sure someone will be able along to confirm whether it is the correct pin or not.

Kind regards,

Tom

Does the pin not go in the hole from underneath, or doesn't it matter? When I've had the checkstraps off (although not for some time) I'm sure I've drifted them out from above.,

Agreed Tom it looks like it needs tap with a small hammer from the bottom
The pin is fitted from the bottom so you are assisting it into position with a tap from the bottom upwards

There is also a rubber boot that covers the pin which needs to be on the strap BEFORE the pin is fitted

I was just going to ask if anyone knows why the pins are inserted bottom first?

I haven’t tried hitting it in yet as I didn’t want to cause any more damage.

I have only tried putting the pin through both the top and bottom side of the arm just using my hand.

I took a picture of it going through the top as it was easier to illustrate the size difference that way.

I don’t know why Audi designed it to fit from the bottom as gravity will pull it out as against holding it in but that is how it is meant to be fitted, trust me I have changed hundreds of check straps over the last 7 years
