THERE WAS A SIGN FOR THE A2 OWNERS CLUB BUT IT HAD BEEN PUT ON THE GRASS BECAUSE OF THE NO SHOW.
HI Mark
I hear you Mate i drove to Mallory Park and i was the only A2 in the display
area....
I was actually looking forward to joining this club and becoming an
"ACTIVE SOCIAL MEMBER" ,after looking at the social section and looking back at different places the A2OC had been it seemed to be a fairly active club..

When the chance arose to help organize the Castle Combe event last year as Stuart Diamond was unable to attend , it was just around the corner for me so i volunteered to help organize the event ....
In past years we have had 14 A2
cars turn up so i was very dissapointed when only 6 cars turned up .......

WE Could not have pushed that event any harder if we had tried although only 6 cars did turn up we all had a really Great day out , there is plenty to see and do..
I know that going to a track day is not everyones idea of a good day out but its so much more than that you wont see many people brave enough to take there A2 on the circuit but..Its a great place just to park up take some pics for the club and just generally hang out with some of the other Much bigger VAG clubs, just going for the Chat with other A2 owners is worth the journey alone its also nice to put a face to a name on the forumns. And there are various trade stands as well ....

After being nominated to run the Social side of this club i was honoured to have been the chosen one, but now i am beginning to feel as though its all just a waste of time , im chasing these events up and people are just not interested , several of my Brothers and friends are in owners clubs and they
often ask me how its going and im quite embarrased to tell them how many people turn up to these events ....

THERE WAS A SIGN FOR THE A2 OWNERS CLUB BUT IT HAD BEEN PUT ON THE GRASS BECAUSE OF THE NO SHOW.
Lets "PLEASE" not let this happen again as people will see this just laugh and wont bother inviting us again ...
Im sure you are all aware that our cars are from the VAG group we have 2500+ members on here and even if 1% of our community turned up thats 25 A2 cars A pretty impressive turn out that would be but at the moment we are getting

"NIL POINTS"

Come on Guys lets all make an effort here we have some more events planned in the Social section lets stand up and be counted i would like to see a bit more commitment around here PLEASE Put your names down and be thankful that we all have this great car ,WE all have something in common here so lets
"SHOUT IT OUT" not "WHISPER"

Just look at the German and Dutch A2 Scene and you will see what you are missing .........

I couldn't agree more with what you've said, I was looking forward to attending GTI International amongst other A2OC events, but there's another 'dead thread' to add to the collection..

An owners club that never meets and just exists online is not an owners club...

Hi,

Here are some thoughts about how we can increase the attendance at these events:

- Make sure that the events are entered into the site calendar. They will then be displayed on the homepage. I have moved the Calendar module up the page too to make upcoming events more visible.

- Try and get confirmations of members attending before turning up - and chase up prior to the event. PM users that have said that they can attend - and PM them afterwards if they didn't attend!

- Try and maintain a mix of event types. Lots of our members simply aren't interested in track days. This is mostly all we have been offering so far. Some suggestions are days out to include things like picnics, barbeques, quizes, visits to country houses/wildlife parks, daytrips to towns, beach volleyball, paintballing, offroading, Bluewater shopping(!), etc. The list goes on...

- Aim to organise a couple of large events and a few smaller events. This way we can plan on getting a large attendance at the big events, and more localised attendance at the smaller events.

- Delegate responsiblity for drumming up support to different parts of the country/overseas. We easily have coverage of most of the UK - so elect 4 or 5 branch coordinators to help.

I should add that whilst it's true we have close to 3000 members registered - a significant proportion of these are inactive members - possibly because they no longer own an A2, or possibly because that was once the only way to gain access to the old site. When I get a bit of spare time, I'll send out a bulk mail to see if we can clearout any inactive accounts - it'll make communicating with out active members more straightfoward. Having said this - our membership grows by about 10 a week - which is pretty impressive really. The number of new members and new vehicles is apparent in the posts that we see.

We should be realistic about our goals too - the A2 is a unique vehicle - and the level of ownership is small. This is reflected in our active membership - and we cannot expect to compete with some of the larger car clubs. It's also a vehicle that has universal appeal - and we need to address the desires of such people. When I'm driving around - I see a significant number of A2s driving by women. This isn't reflected in our active membership. We need to broaden our appeal.

Imagine our average A2OC member - probably 20/30/40 something - very possibly with a young family - lots of commitments. If we can organise events that dovetail into the lives of our members and their families, I think we will be more successful.

I'd be happy to have a family garden party at my house for anyone that wants to attend - and given that Wiltshire and surrounding areas are well represented by our membership - then I'm sure enough people could attend.

Ben

First of all i would like to say the inclusion of the Calender on the Home page is a great idea ,i actually entered a few dates on there a few weeks ago but was thinking that hardly anyone is likely to visit the Calender in its current location ...So it should be easier to see now whats going on Cheers......

Up until last October i had never organized a social event (Castle Combe )of this type,
i did not know what i was volunteering for ,CC Is organised by Audi Driver Magazine and as we have attended several track days in the past they always send me details for every track day that they are involved with ,as i mentioned above My brothers and friends are involved in Owners Clubs and generally everything they do evolves around the car which means they set up displays at various events and there Pride and Joy is placed on it for all to see anything from Track Days to village fates are a good chance to display there cars ......

The reason why i think Track days are a good idea is as you know it is a great chance for us to Display our cars FREE (most of the time) along with all the other clubs but the best thing of all is they happen all over the country which gives access to
a lot more people as people do not want to be travelling 100's of miles and you can always travel to a race circuit near where you live ....

I have mentioned this before about other clubs having area social's ...
but the A2 club seemed to be more interested in having a central venue
where more people can attend as a club , the funny thing is people have sent me PM's asking if we go on a social somwhere ,is there somwhere where we can all park our cars together and have a chat (Its called a track day)
Only Joking !!!!! LOL!!!!

HAVE WE ANY VOLUNTEERS WHO WOULD LIKE TO ORGANIZE AN AREA SOCIAL ....

IM also a family man as it mentions in my signature and i think it would be great for the club if we could get together on a family level for a couple of occasions and bring along the kids i mentioned
Stratford On Avon as there is a great big Grass Area and its close to the town ,fairly central to the country and well catered for so i think Barbaques ,picnics ,football and a game of Rounders ,could be a possibility ..

There is no reason why people cant get together on a local basis for some of the above things then perhaps once or twice a year we all have a big meet where everyone can be involved ..........

I Must admit im really looking forward to the A2 Drive and i really hope that more people show an interest as i think that could be a fantastic day out especially if we can sort a venue out at the end of the drive ,it will be the first time hopefully that we have had that many A2's driving along the road at the same time ,although not accessible to everyone for its location, this will be a unique expereince that surely people wil not want to miss out on ......

I Feel this is dragging on a bit but i think The Garden Party at your house is a great idea and if you need any help in organizing that i could give you a hand
