Today I.....

What is it you lubricate?
Not maintenance, it's repair. The Climate ramps the fan up and nothing moves. 180k miles and it must just get dry. Been in constant use these last few days, i'm still commuting 50mile round trip to work, leaving at 6am so it's not as if the motors been idle. WD40 then run in 3in1 oil.

So its the bearing, would have thought that would be sealed but clearly not!
Have replaced brushed in a few blower motors but not touched an A2 one yet

Rob,

If you can get the part number of the corner you’re missing I might have a spare.

I have 2 the same here and need to go to @Sarge to complete my set but happy to pass on the ‘spare’ one I have. It’s original but cannot remember which corner it is from. Part number will answer this.

Hopefully I can help you out.

Kind regards,

Tom
Cheers...thanks, I’ll see if I can track down the part number...or at least PM you the part numbers of the three I have left lol

The joy of a new thermostat...haven’t seen more than 60-70 on the gauge for months...

Today I...

Well yesterday afternoon to be precise, I dropped my new A8 wheels off for a refurb at Loughborough Refurbs.

On inspection at their premises it was clear that one of the wheels would need to be put on the lathe to cut back material to remove a few of the imperfections in the Diamond Cut finish. I knew this was unavoidable so asked for a price anyway....

This would have been an expensive task as I would want all 4 wheels doing so they all looked perfect.

Therefore I decided against the diamond cut finish and let them repair these imperfections ready for a full chrome powder coat finish. It will certainly stop any white corrosion appear at the first speckles of rain.

The wheels might be there a few weeks whilst they finish updating their powder coating equipment and booth.

I’m in no rush but also quite excited to see the results. Fingers crossed they’re not too bling.

Kind regards,

Tom

Could one be happy with a broken down A2 (clutch/gearbox issues)?
Yes, because yesterday I bought one ?.
Tommorow I'm going to pick it up together with @[email protected] ?on a car transporter.

As a result my beloved AMF needs to go, so Today I made an ad on the Dutch forum which will be there forever I guess (a ban on "old" EURO3 diesel cars in cities).....

Solution to your LHD issue, if not the auto one @gangitano85

Afternoon Menno,

Sorry to hear you’re departing ownership with this one. It looks amazing with on those A8 wheels!

Now as I know your wheels are in rather good order, what will these being up for sale for, including shipping to Leicestershire. Happy to see these in the market place if they are indeed for sale with centre caps.

Good luck with the next A2 sir.

Kind regards,

Tom

Thanks Tom.

The red A2 is advertised including the A8 rims, although I left the choice to purchase without them, amongst other "goodies" that are fitted to the A2. Ofcourse it has an influence (discount) on the (now high) asking price if one will buy with standard 15"rims, without full Fis, Bilstein B8, etc.
It will give me loads more work taking goodies of and replace them with standard.
The goodies ofcourse will fit nicely on the the new but broken one..... And so, the rims wil go with the car, or stay with me.

Hi Menno,

I very much thought that would be your answer. It was worth asking though but I know how much you’re attached to these wheels.

Good luck with the next A2. It’s in good hands and I cannot wait to see pictures once you’ve given it some TLC.

Kind regards,

Tom

Brilliant work @simufly ?

This is very strong motivation for the rest of us.... refurbish after 20 years, next time will probably be 2050 or later.... ;)??

Just about finished. The most difficult parts was reconnecting the two flexi pipes infront of the axle. They are hidden behind the heat shields and the access is awful and the old flexis were corroded to the bracket.
Took me all morning. And (though I say it myself) I am a very competent mechanic, It is a job I would not do again. It would be easier if you had a pit or walk under ramp, but laying on your back being dripped on by hydraulic fluid is not an experience I recommend.
Anyway if you are tempted to do the job can I offer some pointers?
Sturdy correct supports for the car are VITAL. I turned up some adaptors for the support points on the car and used tripod stands.
The correct tools are essential. ( Normal sockets and spanners, Spring compressors, torque wrench, 23mm socket, drift for the bearings, New hub-nuts, new long bolts and nuts for the new bearings. New top and bottom buffers for the springs. New flexis. Axle support to lower old axle when released from the car.Quite a list and expensive if you use Audi parts)

As a bonus if anyone is tempted and wants my old 1.4 rear axle for refurbishment prior to exchange on their car. It is FOC to anyone who can collect. It comes with the old wheel bearings which seem fine to me.
It will be going to recycling if no one wants it

Did you get a 1.2 A2 this time?

Nope, sadly here in the Netherlands the 1.2 tdi is classified as EURO 3, although it could be EURO 4........... but at time of production there was no EURO 4 classification yet........
In Germany it's possible to get a EURO 4 classification on a 1.2tdi (so I'm told), but the Dutch register wants to have none of it: It was produced as a EURO 3, it will be registered as a EURO 3!

So, the only choice with an A2 diesel EURO 4 to get into the cities over here is a BHC or an ATL engine fitted one.
The one broken down advertised is luckily an ATL, so I can stretch/extend my A2 ownership with some months/years (hopefully..).

Googling for A2 3L Euro 4, a topic on the german site comes up that shows registration papers of a supposed factory Euro 4 3L that is then expanded upon as a 2005* model without power steering or climate control and the lightweight rear bench. Are even these (probably crazy rare) ones going to be considered Euro 3 even if the original german papers say Euro 4? (Unfortunately the COC papers for that car in particular were never uploaded)

Today I finally fulfilled my longstanding ambition of reaching 1000km (621.4 miles) on a single tank. Only took me 3 years and buying a Diesel to achieve ? and even in that it's been two weeks of agony being overtaken by lorries on the motorway... o_O

IMG_20210205_182122740.jpg

At the pump, this turned out to be 3.73l/100km = 75.7mpg imp. - Apparently I could have done another 100+ km even though the car itself thought it was more like 20-30 and the refuel symbol had been on for 85... ? Still not quite 3L or ecodriving TDI75 levels but presumably fairly good for a well-worn TDI90. :)

If a 3L left the factory with EURO 4 classification, then it will have EURO 4 in Holland too.
My point is that in Germany you can get EURO 4 on a EURO 3 car if you are willing to comply and change your car.
If one did and export the car to the Netherlands it will be classified as EURO 3......maybe if you're willing to fight the Dutch register you'll be able to win, I would not know because I'm not willing, just like the register is not open for a change to/for the better.

I choose the ATL........ including airco and powersteering ? and EURO 4......... and if I see your posting; Very fuel economic too ?

If you mean a fairly common thing to do for 3L owners that is "on paper" only, afaik that's not actually Euro 4 people are getting on their Euro 3 3Ls but Euro 3 D4 which is the (possibly Germany-only?) minimum emissions class for the green windshield-sticker that allows entry into restricted inner-city areas.

Either way, the ATL is certainly a nice choice, too, (definitely when foot to the floor, though personally I would expect to be arrested on the spot for pollution in NL if I ever tried that there) and I wouldn't necessarily want to drive a 3L without power steering/airco to work year round either. (Though I would want to have one just because ?) Then again, the things I do for fuel consumption "high scores"... ?

Today as I drove in to the supermarket I spied the centre cap I lost last week! I was so pleased that I’d happened upon it.

... that was until I actually picked it up and realised it had not escaped the attention of a few cars and was somewhat knackered ? oh well, just one more thing to add to the wish list ?

I feel your pain and that certainly looks to be beyond repair

Better than no centre cap at all though.
