Today I.....

Today as I drove in to the supermarket I spied the centre cap I lost last week! I was so pleased that I’d happened upon it.

... that was until I actually picked it up and realised it had not escaped the attention of a few cars and was somewhat knackered ? oh well, just one more thing to add to the wish list ?
I’ve got some on the new breaker mate. I’m sure someone who’s buying a set of leather could have one thrown in for free ?

Owned it less than 48 hours, put it on ramps and stands and took rear bumper off, naturally.
Found that both rear spring pigtails have fractured off (one still tangled up in bottom coil) and bumper crash beam bent.
Couldn't get rear vents out to clean and prep for re-sealing, so went and bought 12kg of salt and a bowl to put in the boot, to draw up the damp ?
Plugged in scanner, cleared two old lambda fault codes, ECL stayed off ?

Wish I’d been that lucky with my jacking point cover ?

The standard jacking point covers did have a plastic lanyard that held the jacking point cover when not located. That said over the years probably many have now snapped off.

Today I took the UDZ 2003 car for a test drive with my freshly installed Concert 2 radio.

Before that, what a pain it was to firstly research why the button illumination did not work (yes, the more experienced here will have a clue at once I am sure) and why the radio did not follow key-on and key-on transistions, instead was always on.
The second pain was to do all corrective the work at the car outside in -14C temperature and dark. A lamp on my head at least solved the dark :p.

This car was obviously, just as most other sweden-sold Audi A2s, ordered in a configuration for aftermarket radios (code 8YU).
This means that no CAN bus was ever routed to the radio connector C. Actually the connnector C was omitted.
And the K-line was also missing at the radio connector A, since aftermarket radios wont have any use of it.

But, if/when installing a Audi radio, both a CAN bus (either the Infotainment or the Comfort bus) and K-line is needed for the Audi radio.

To cut the story short; in the end I located both of those at the climate panel connectors, and made a add-on harness from there to the radio.

Now both button illumination and key-on / key-off works well on the radio. And of course the radio sounds good. :)
???

Today I... Found my wifes key in the bottom of a vase of flowers !!!

It is dried out with the battery from the other key/fob .... not working
What is the process to programming another key/fob?
Has anyone got a spare key/fob?
Has anyone got a spare wife?

Morning,

Here is a link to the How To that Steve @Birchall put together some years ago.

Works every time for me.

I’ve just found a few spare fobs which I’m going to be sending out to members today once I have their addresses. I could send one to you also.

Please confirm the part number of the remote half of your key fob. If it’s unreadable then just let me know the full part number of your CCCU.

Kind regards,

Tom

Great thanks Tom !!
No spare wife that can be programmed ? ?

Gave the car it’s first run since an MOT and brake service last month. Started and stopped perfectly. However, it’s been such a long time since I’d driven the car, that I had forgotten how challenging lane changing can be with such limited power. Reminded me of Michael McIntyre’s brilliant observations on returning to the loser lane! Will defiantly seek out some more leisurely B-road alternatives for next time, which should also help avoid any more motorway embarrassment.

Just an asthmatic 1.4 petrol. So much more at home on the supermarket run. However sadly it doesn’t even get to do very much of that either, thanks to home deliveries and an i3 in the fleet.

Today I saw the proof that my intercooler is cooked...always something to be done and more explaining to the wife why I’m spending more money on ‘an old car’ ?

Yes I agree, but there is no return boost pipe anywhere near that area. I think it’s more likely to be the oil filler tube that’s got a crack in it and there’s blow back from the sump. That pipe is directly above that oil patch.

Ok..that’s another thing to add to the list lol

The intercooler is blown and I’ve been suffering from many occasions of absolutely no turbo which, after turning the ignition off and restarting the car, remedies itself...until the next occasion although, and this may be purely coincidental, the car has behaved itself since the new thermostat was fitted?! (And wow is the car SLOW without the turbo!)

I think ive got an intercooler on the shelf that is used but functioning. I could send it to you for a tenner plus postage (about £6). DIY fit it and then your Mrs can't possibly be annoyed at that expenditure :)

I got 6500k... But next time I will get 5000k or something I think. I didn't know what I was buying at the time.

7500k+ is blue.
6000k - 7500k is white blue
4000k - 5500k is white (if I remember correctly which is what I want)
Have you had the chance to try them out yet? I am really curious, thinking on buying the same.
Much better illumination? Irritating meeting cars?
