MOT fail with missing heat shield etc etc.....etc!

Thanks for that and apologies for my stupidity... but how do I go about PMing Tom at Crewe Audi?

@CreweAudi is a member on here. Hover over this tag and a box will appear with a Start Conversation link. Alternatively, click the envelope icon in the black bar at the top of any page and click Start a new conversation, enter Creweaudi as the recipient.

Careful, assumptions are dangerous. The three codes of 172 have three different PR codes on the right of the7zap page, 0M1,0M2 and 0M3, which all translate to 'Fuel Tank'. These probably relate to the different capacity tanks, 42l, 36l(?) and I guess something smaller for the 1.2.

Safest thing is to PM Tom at Crewe Audi on here with your reg and ask which is correct. He is usually very helpful and it may still be available if so he can quote a price.

Andy

Edit. Seems NLA but I would still ask Tom.
1.2 has a 34L tank the same as early cars

Audi Tradition have the B version but I guess looking at the hierarchy of the versions this will be the 42 litre tank, not you.

Oh dear, sounds like the search goes on but thanks for the info. Still not sure then if it should be 172 or172A then...

My favourite..... Front washer bottle top missing. What really!!!! Rear seats missing not sure about that one.

Buckled wheels well I can understand that. Tyres and shocks again fair comment. Bulb issues - did you check all the bulbs before the MOT?

Mil illuminated pre 2003. Is that even an advisory as it is PRE 2003.

Time to clean some corrosion and try to either powder coat or Hammerite paint them afterwards.

Central rear fuel tank exhaust heat shield missing..a better description or picture would help on this one. Here is the parts page.. Perhaps #3 on diagram.

OK

Thanks for that. Still waiting to see if Tom from Crewe Audi can shed any light but have had a pic of diesel underside and the layout looks nothing like my petrol one. Seems like the A version (yours) is the diesel shield then and the B version is for the bigger 42L tank. Mine is 34l accoring to the original handbook so looks like I need the plain ....72 version, not the 72A or 72B (unless anyone knows better?).
Scarcer than hens teeth itg appears 😪

As I said before, I suspect the plain 172 is for the smaller 1.2 tank, 1.2 items are often quoted first on a 7zap page. Pound to a penny you will need 172A.

Give Tom at Crewe Audi a gentle reminder or visit you local Audi.

How to make your own heat shield:
(plenty of other YouTube videos available)

Embossed aluminium easily available, for instance here:

I would expect any good exhaust builder to be able to do this for you, if you don't fancy doing it yourself.

I'll contact the local Audi dealer..... but they're normally worse than useless. I'll let you know whatever the outcome. Thanks.

there appears to be a bit of a clue about which 0Mx code refers to which fuel tank option in the exhaust components pages - particularly the ANY exhaust page :

so we know that 0M2 and 0M3 refer to either 34L or 21L alternate versions in the ANY.

On AUA / BBY page (cars with 34 or 42L tanks)

there are 0M2 and 0M1 options. Knowing that, AUA should be 34L, and BBY probably 42L - (and similar process of elimination on the AMF / BHC page) as well as the image of the A-suffix part from a 2001 AMF uploaded by @kp 115 earlier -

this suggests that 0M3 is the 21L tank (heat shield 8Z0 804 172), 0M2 is 34L (8Z0 804 172 A), and 0M1 is 42L 8Z0 804 172 B).

Thanks for that. Nice to maybe have a bit of clarity... and agreement.. at last.
I'll check with the local Audi (maybe Tom at Crewe Audi is on holiday?) but will still have the problem of actually finding -or trying to make - one.

Make a card template of the area you need to cover marking fixing location points etc,
Lay it over a sheet of embossed alloy lagging specialists use this all the time!!!!
Cheers
