1989 car, one of the last of the small bumpers.Hi all.
Just purchased a very run down(not used since 2008!) mk2 Golf gti 3 door 90 spec 1.8 8valve in scwarz black.
Does anyone here own one?
Thanks Steve
There is so much wrong there but it can all be fixed. You need to join the MK2 Owners club (https://www.vwgolfmk2.co.uk/clubforum/index.php?wwwRedirect) as a paid member and get to know the MK2 breakers.Nope this is deffo a last chance saloon car. Not currently running(but cranks over) car has been off road since 2008. Seller assured me, he periodically started the car in storage for upto 5 years and drove it for a short distance. Then car failled to start? Car has spent last 3 years stored outside under a tarpaulin for last 3 years. Interior is in reasonably good condition (very dirty/mouldy) battery tray is rusted out, both front floor panels require welding(possibly renew) new front wings, slam panel, radiator panel and a complete renew or refurb of brakes/suspension . And thats not including getting engine running. The list is getting longer by the day, but for how much i paid for it, could turn out to be a very good buy.

They are good but it depends what you have driven since. I see you have owned a Porsche, a standard MK2 will never compare. Not now, but owned an Oak Green big bumper 16v for a while and loved it. Tried one more recently and it felt horrible; I don't know if it was just a poor example or just a victim of rose tinted glasses. I've had a couple of mk3s including a lovely low mileage one owner VR6 Highline I foolishly sold!
One good thing about the Golfs is that there's massive parts and expertise support out there.
FGS! are they worth that much? I don't bother to insure mine unless I drive it.Here is my actual car that was apparently for sale recently. If anyone knows where it is now, I would love to know.
I found this listing on sur theparking-cars.co.uk - isn’t it great?

I paid £11k for her at 1 year old in 1992. New, she was about £14k.FGS! are they worth that much? I don't bother to insure mine unless I drive it.
Edit: more than I paid for it and I bought it new.
