Are all AMF engines the same?

When I look at 7Zap, that has now started charging for part numbers,

That caught me by surprise - and sure enough, when I've gone to 7zap just now they do indeed have the part numbers hidden as mentioned. I thought that this was going to cause problems (and still might in due course).

However, if you mouse-pointer over the wee magnifying glass adjacent to the part-hidden number, the complete part number appears in the URL readout on the bottom of the browser window (must be part of the link to the page for the part) - so you can still retrieve the part number. I am on a Macbook Pro using Google Chrome - I don't know if something similar can be done on other browsers or on phones / tablets.

I've just taken a screen grab to show this - my mouse was over the part 045****2P although this has disappeared in the screen grab, full part number appears in the bottom left hand corner.

I have bought the very engine @A2Steve refers to above. It is a Skoda engine and I’m noticing differences but not yet anything I can’t swop off my existing AMF. I’ll report details in my new to me AMF thread.
Important information for this thread, I learnt from Steve yesterday. A Skoda engine can be swopped into an A2, as has the one I bought. A Polo engine cannot due to starter motor differences.

That's crazy, what's different about the starter as I thought they would all be the same?

Don’t know detail, something to do with holes I think. Just thought I best report it just in case others are looking at Polo engines. Something for them to check out before buying.

Seems odd as the starter relies on the gearbox aperture and the flywheel teeth. We know polo gearboxes fit no problem so I can't think how these could be different so would be good for us all to know what pitfalls exist to avoid falling into that trap lol!

Just information I’ve gleaned from the historical pages on here.

Have never had a 9n AMF engine side by side with an A2 one but seeing as the Fabia one is known to fit then why bother 😊

Interesting, an early 2003 AMF is machined for both hydraulic and friction damping. Stud in friction damping idler position, unused tapping for hydraulic damping.

Probably so a short engine replacement would suite either setup?

This confirms my findings with the water pumps as earlier cars by chassis number regardless of belt set up had 045 121 011 B listed for them yet the later ones had 045 121 011 H listed. Side by side I could see no difference with the pumps so fitted the "H" to my 2002 which by chassis number should have the "B" but does also have the later friction tensioner also.

Is this engine going to be build up ready for when/if an issue arises with you current internally damaged one or are you going to fit it ASAP?

I should have explained all of this when I started the thread New to me AMF. My plan was to get a good AMF and then rebuild it over the winter to reconditioned standard. By Spring I'll have a broken car in my lockup fixed and out and I can then move the A2 in. The replacement engine will be completed with parts off my A2 and then installed in the car.
