Back with an A2 Project – A2Steve

I put the Monroe sports on back and front when I removed my Coilovers (which went to you Steve :) ) - ride is fairly comfortable combined 30/30mm drop Weitec springs....also combined with rear ARB bought from @timmus which makes a marked difference for stability in the corners.

Only slight regret for me is the droop effect at the back - I'll likely need to address by putting on 20mm drop springs on the back I reckon....

Or sink the front shocks lower into the hubs? Same comfort, lower ride.

Started off tonight with a very crusty looking underside at the rear

Everything has been wire head cleaned down and will get a coat of hammerite tomorrow to freshen it up and give it some protection.

Fitted new Eibach springs, Febi spring cups, Monroe shocks and Whiteline anti roll bar.

Looking a lot better already

Sorry to those who were hoping that I would keep this one factory standard but the button has now been pushed and it can only end with the full works being done.

Latest addition is the TT comps that were delivered yesterday

It does mean however that the rather nice design 16 inch 5 spokes will be available via the marketplace soon.

I had thought to keep it relatively standard on the outside, but I think the plans for the exterior are now going to be a votex kit (if I can find one) and the top half of the car painted gunmetal grey to match the wheels. Will also be combined with cream leather to lighten it a little.

@wetzded@hotmail.com I wonder if you can help me out via your connections with A2-Fruende. A popular mod in Europe seems to be the fitment of a chrome surround on the lower front bumper grille by fittig one from another Audi model. It didn't seem to take off here, but i'd like to give it a try. Do you know of the mod and which part is involved?

Hi Steve, happy to help.
The majority used the lower part of front grill of an Audi A4 convertible model 8E . Modelyear 2002 - 2004 is what I used.

Thanks. So is it just the chrome strip used over the top of the factory A2 one?

I may trial an A8 unit and completely replace the whole unit 🤔

Yes, I took out the middle grill of the A2 and cut out the section that you will replace. In order to not overdo the mod, I attached the new grill with small black tie-wraps. Never looked back😉. Enjoy!

The parts to be fitted next week are piling up nicely in the boot.

New track rod ends, new thermostat, air filter, oil filter, oil, waterpump, timing belt and tensioner. Also H&R front anti roll bar, alternator, tensioner and cast wishbones.

I’ve also got a nearly new starter motor here but I suppose if it isn’t broken then I shouldn’t try to fix it.

This afternoon I got the car up on ramps and gave the whole underside a good clean up with a pressure washer. Engine bay came up nicely too. With the new alternator tensioner and Starter, the engine bay will be looking pretty fresh.

Service and track rods done Friday night and wet sanding and DA polishing stated tonight.

The whole car was covered in what looked like paint flecks. Compound alone wouldn’t remove it so I’ve had to use 2000 grit wet and dry. A bit scary but it’s coming out well.
