Bought my A2 today

A remapped A2 would not see-off a properly driven CTR - most CTR drivers don't use the engine as it 'ought to be, that is to change-up just before the rev limiter and always be in the lowest gear possible for acceleration. For an inital moment the torque of a remapped TDI would do its stuff, but once power (which is torque x rpm) comes into play, the CTR would burn up the road!

If this was in reply to my comment, then i did state the A2 held its own. In other words it managed to keep up with it not burn it off!

Yes, the CTR would fly off into the distance given the right roads, but in the real world of roundabouts etc i was able to keep up.

Mike, are you sure the figure given is lb/ft and not Nm (Newton Metres) - 346Nm would be 258lb/ft which sounds about right
Yes, small typo there. It is 346Nm.

Mike

Greetings from newbie

Hi All - my first post

Just purchased a A2 TDI 90 to replace my Jag. Don't own a TT but have an Exige s2 as my 'other' car.

A2's is great fun and I'm pleased that I went for a car with 15 inch wheels as it's handling is great - 16 inch are too wide!

just one question - why are people wanting to modify such a good little car?

regards

Glad you like your new A2 and welcome to the A2OC.

To answer your question: to make them better!

As the owner of probably the most modified A2 in the country, I can say that all the mods are done not for reasons of show or 'Max Power Mindedness', but to improve on what you correctly identify as a cracking little car.

For example, the suspension on the Sport models gives good (very good actually) roadholding, but terrible comfort levels. Koni FSD dampers cure this and improve on the factory specification.

Audi also never included the excellent RNS-E system for the A2 (the widescreen radio/navigation system) so I have remedied this too!

Things like remaps are getting to be almost a 'standard' upgrade nowadays, people realising that so much better performance can be achieved without sacrificing economy or emission levels.

It's not a case of trying to turn the A2 into something else (a mini TT for instance), but of making the most of what Audi started developing in 1999 and stopped in 2001 (no further advances were implemented, apart from the introduction of a more powerful diesel engine in 2004, but this was already available from the VW range).

If Audi had continued its development, it's quite probably that the car would not have been cut from the range in 2005 - so many people are now 'getting' the A2, ironic now that they can't order a new one!

Cheers,

Mike

I bought an A2 for the wife and as way of releasing some cash from our previous 'second car' to pay for a conservatory, so to be honest whether a modded one can keep up with a CTR, or anything else for that matter, is hardly relevant to us.

However, now we own one, and based on remap results on other cars we've owned, I think we'd be daft not spend £275 at Stealth to realise it's full potential. If it gives it as much 'drivability' as my Mk5 105 bhp golf 1.9tdi then I'll be well happy.

We went for the A2 in the end for high mpg, low tax, low insurance costs, good build quality, good interior space and because of it's 'unique-ness' and general class. Still want to make it more 'ours' though..... anyone know if polished TT comp alloys will fit ??:D

They certainly do, but not with the standard 225/45 tyres. You'll have to step down to 215/40 ones for there to be no rubbing issues.

remap

ive just booked mine in at stealth for the end of july and they said as long as they get enough interest they will keep doing the remap at the offer price {onging}.
