Hi All - my first post
Just purchased a A2 TDI 90 to replace my Jag. Don't own a TT but have an Exige s2 as my 'other' car.
A2's is great fun and I'm pleased that I went for a car with 15 inch wheels as it's handling is great - 16 inch are too wide!
just one question - why are people wanting to modify such a good little car?
regards
Glad you like your new A2 and welcome to the A2OC.
To answer your question: to make them better!
As the owner of probably the most modified A2 in the country, I can say that all the mods are done not for reasons of show or 'Max Power Mindedness', but to improve on what you correctly identify as a cracking little car.
For example, the suspension on the Sport models gives good (very good actually) roadholding, but terrible comfort levels. Koni FSD dampers cure this and improve on the factory specification.
Audi also never included the excellent RNS-E system for the A2 (the widescreen radio/navigation system) so I have remedied this too!
Things like remaps are getting to be almost a 'standard' upgrade nowadays, people realising that so much better performance can be achieved without sacrificing economy or emission levels.
It's not a case of trying to turn the A2 into something else (a mini TT for instance), but of making the most of what Audi started developing in 1999 and stopped in 2001 (no further advances were implemented, apart from the introduction of a more powerful diesel engine in 2004, but this was already available from the VW range).
If Audi had continued its development, it's quite probably that the car would not have been cut from the range in 2005 - so many people are now 'getting' the A2, ironic now that they can't order a new one!
Cheers,
Mike
