The servo isn't holding vacuum. I now have a good replacement ready to fit.Could still be the bellows split allowing the noise of the diaphragm into the cabin. If the diaphragm itself was split you would have no servo assistance in the braking. Is the clip part of the pedal? Has it dropped out, got twisted or is it missing altogether?
Ah. I thought there might be a special tool. Too late now.Audi Workshop Service and Repair Manuals > A2 > Brake system | Brake, brake mechanics | Removing and installing brake pedal/brake servo | Detaching brake pedal from brake servo

Hi TomMorning Dave,
I’m glad you got this sorted so quickly. I remember it not being a very comforting sound when I had the hissing noise coming from down in the footwell.
Thank you for informing us that there is a way of utilising an ebay item, with little modification. Your link doesn’t seem to direct me to it though, it simply sends me to eBay but not a specific listing.
Kind regards,
Tom
