car mods

Just finished chuckling after reading that lmao .. i love this forum ... a2steve you know me so well already

For me it would definitely be something that would change the rear bumper.
I would love to see some way of toning down the large expanse of "rump" especially on the lower part of the rear bumper.

I'm a graphic designer can explain a little about visual balance and using dark space to slim things. The 'big rump' on yours is basically a problem of visual balance. Standard A2s trick you into thinking they are less tall because the lower bumpers and sills are painted dark grey which optically lowers the visual silhouette of the car by making the 'body' seem slimmer and nearer the road than it actually is. The votex kit covers those standard body areas with skirts and air-dams, and in 99% of cases, the owner plumps for body coloured rather than matt grey paint. The kit generally certainly looks cool, but makes the car look a lot more 'roller-skate' like now that this optical illusion has been covered over, making the sides and rear taller and more 'flank' like. I'd bet a bit of matt grey colour coding on a Votex kit would do some serious work in making the kit more subtle and less in your face.

Would be interesting to see a matt grey Votex kit. Personally I like the Votex kit standing out I think it looks aggressive.

Just adding a quick Photochop to illustrate my point....

Hi
thank you for that. Very interesting.
The only problem I have with it is that it hides the Votex too much.

That is the standard style with the black / dark sills and bumper bottoms.

You our are right that it does reduce he appearance and it would help make the rear look less "full".

Steve B

I guess it's all about whether you have the kit for actual aerodynamics, an aggressive stance or just to be different; That's just how I'd do it if I had the kit fitted - ie those that know would know but those that didn't wouldn't, which is sort of the definition of sleeper style.

Hi,

I hope I am not sounding negative that is definitely not what I am saying.

In my case I have the Votex kit simply because I like the appearance, so it is not Aerodynamics or aggressive stance (I am not sure that it does have much of an impact on the aerodynamics if any, and it may even have a negative impact on it since the A2 has a low cd as it is.).

But I REALLY do like to see suggestions and ideas like yours, the more varied and unique the styling, the better.

It would be great to see this in the flesh and I suspect that certain colour A2s would REALLY suit this.

Steve B

Mike a.k.a A2sumo's colour storm is probably one of the closest to this Ihave seen in the flesh. Still one of my favourite A2's.

You aren't sounding negative at all... :)
Fun to have this sort of discussion. It's nice we're at a point where people aren't quite so conservative in their modding tastes (price is a great leveller)

I've always thought that on a silver one, a black tailgate and bonnet swap would look good, if in conjunction with a black/opensky roof.

(as would a red front bumper) But I'm odd like that... :

Some nice ideas there .. will be getting on the computer and get sarah to have a play about with few ideas for mine ...

Thanks for confirming that, you can never tell how people take your comments and I am glad we have been able to discuss this too.

I REALLY like the style of this one above too, looks kinda clean lines and the OSS is integrated in a scheme like this.

As for the red bumper? no comment but as I said it is good to experiment like that.
