Cracking noise - drivers door

Good to know that you're sorted out as to the repair.

You are right - £56 isn't bad at all for both straps.

Cheers,

Mike

I paid £50 or £56 for one :(

And they had to have the door off anyways!! so it should of only been the part

Np worries - it's just a shame that I still have to get the heavies involved, a year after the repair was authorised as being free of charge to all A2s.

Cheers,

Mike

Yes Mike sent you Mail, looks like mine is getting sorted now after the HEAVIE's have been called lol, Cheers Mike.

Anyway to me i think its a rip off £56 for FOUR NUTS(yes +parts) they are doing half the job already. If they cost £11 each that works out at £8.50p a nut not bad

Cheers Phil

Mine is broken at the two dead bolts which clamp the resin/spring component to the L-shape mounting plate. It seems the bolts are far too weak for repeated use over time.

My driver side front door check rod is now FUBAR. Before ordering, I just want to check the part with people, 8Z0 837 249 Front Door Check Rod?

Right, mine is now fixed with the said part. £14.98 from you local Audi dealer. The only trick is that ElsaWin doesn't tell you how to replace just the check rod. It does however tell you how to replace the whole door arrester! But you don't have to replace anything on the A-pillar to fix it, as long as you can release the locking pin covered by a piece of black rubber.

If you have doubt removing the locking pin without damaging it, get yourself a spare one 8Z0 837 257 as you order the check rod, can't be that expensive.

The simple procedure is
1. Remove door car as per ElsaWin (or search the forum)
2. On the A-pillar, lift the rubber cover on the door check rod to reveal a locking pin
3. Use a plier wrench (or gentle hammering/tapping) to push the locking pin from bottom. Don't try to clamp across the pin top and pull, you may ruin it as it is hollow.
4. There are two notches at the top of the locking pin which you can also utilise to lever it out.
5. Check rod is now free, unscrew two hex nuts on the door to release the whole part.
6. Put the new one in and reverse the above procedure!

should be done in 30min or less

Hi humps,
For £14.98 did you get just the metal strap or the whole part with the spring and L shape bracket?
I've just swapped over my passenger and drivers straps and brackets until I can buy the new parts. I had the put in bolts where the rivets had broken off but it still creaks and cracks. Is there any difference in the part no. or is it universal for both front doors? i.e. not a different part for drivers or passengers side door.
Also my pins in the A pillar were fitted from below, i.e. to get them out I tapped them from the top not the bottom. Are yours the other way round?
Many thanks
ST

I have the same question, but I think I can guess that 11 quid must be for just the strap.I have repaired both sides but they still crack because of wear on the plastic rollers. Does anyone have a price for the whole part before I open my wallet at my LAG? Perhaps the person who paid £56 bought the whole arrester?

For £17, you get the entire L bracket, strap and rollers.

All you need to do is remove the door card, remove the 2 nuts and pin under the rubber boot and replace old with new.

This is one of the more reasonably priced Audi parts.

Cheers,

Mike

Door Hinge Repair

Hi All,

I have my 2003 A2 approved for a warranty door hinge repair - thanks Mike. It is being done at Finchley Road Audi. They have just phoned to tell me that there is a problem as although they now have all the parts, they don't have the required applicator tool to apply the bonding (apparently it mixes the liquids together and "squirts" them onto the door). I'd be grateful if anybody could let me know which Audi garages have done this repair, so I can get Finchley Road Audi to call them so they can borrow the applicator tool

Many thanks

Ebenezer

I have repaired both door check straps now and thought while I was at it I would write a brief pictorial "how to". If you spot any errors let me know.
I was also able to repair the mirror switch which was knocked off soon after we got the car. Luxury is no more clicking doors and now I can adjust the mirrors too:cool:

Audi A2 door strap repair

perfect timing. Thats a great help thanks.

it would be great if this and also the thread with photos of how to change the pollen filter were popped into the "how to" section.

This is weird.
Both my front doors have started doing this in the last couple of weeks!
This must be another common A2 fault!

To be fair to the A2 mine has had all the common faults and no others:

1.6FSI coil packs...CHECK
Nox sensor fail at 4 years...CHECK
Front passenger tyre wear faster than others...CHECK
Doors slightly ruptured...CHECK

Now this one!

Will get down to Harrogate audi and get some bits ordered. I had assumed it was just needing some grease!

blast. Just picked up the parts to fix my clicking door and noticed there is now a small (3cm diameter) but very noticable circular dent on the outside of the door just on the other side of where the L bracket attaches I think. Hopefully it will pop out :(
