A2OC Donor
Yesterday I finally got to meet Tom @timmus and Ian @Proghound in Leighton Buzzard. They both worked on Audrey while I worked on my laptop in Ian's dining room.
Jobs done:
- Reflowing the solder on the driver's rear door lock to cure the de-safe fault in cold weather that manifested itself earlier this year
- The fitting of a @depronman check strap for the driver's door (which I hadn't even noticed was in a bad way as it wasn’t al that noisy), but now it's been done the difference is obvious!)
- Upgrading my existing early heated leather sports seats so that they now have lumbar support.
The latter was an involved, two-man job but Ian and Tom got there in the end and can safely say they've done something they've never before achieved with an A2! Tom only had black lumbar control buttons and seat trims - I genuinely think he has actually enhanced the aesthetics by tying in the rest of the car's (Soul Black) interior with the seats. Furthermore, I am so pleased by the visual difference I no longer feel the need to change to platinum leather - so I can finally lay that idea to rest. The photo below gives an idea but in-person the effect is more subtle than I think the photo suggests.
It did feel strange driving the car now that lumbar is fitted - before, my shoulders and neck would start to ache after around 2.5-3 hours, as the top of the sport seat pushes your shoulders forwards more than is ideal without lumbar - now with lumbar you sit slightly further forward, with the lumbar extended most / all of the way, which then alleviates this. Therefore if like me, you have non lumbar sports seats, I can highly recommend this upgrade if you do not wish to change your seats for a seat so equipped.
I hadn't realised until talking to the gents yesterday that Swing Grey was phased out quite early on in the A2's production run - certainly before lumbar support was offered; Tom therefore remarked how I have a unique set of seats now that mine have this.
In other news - Now the new Brembo X pads have bedded in nicely onto the grooved disks, the brakes are now very good and stop the car from high speed without fuss. Only complaint is they seem to generate a lot of brake dust on the wheels, but perhaps that will also calm down a little now.
