iPod

The website shows an FM input and a line in. you'd need a line in to cd changer port adapter thingummy but it could be a line in and hence better quality. although I'd imagine direct wired FM transmission would be better than an itrip

P.S. I recently heard that personal FM transmitters may finally become legal in this country this year (May I think) (see T3 magazine, latest issue)

Alpine cda 9850 Ri

I tried searching for this but drew a blank. Any links or pics you can supply?

Just returned the Alpine head unit, nice unit etc, ipod worked perfectly thro it but it just did'nt look right.Had the red buttons but the display was white with white lettering.Fussy I know but I like things to match. I'll just get the denison ice link, but will buy the black iPod video to match the black maybe.
:)

Just been into Halfords and ordered the Dension.Did'nt realise they're not in stock, the bracket has to be ordered. However, the assistant tried to talk me into having the FM one fitted, £99.99, and that fits into the aerial socket, then you can still have the cd changer in the boot.He said there's no diffrence in sound quality  . I hope there is because I have an iTrip, works the same way as you tune the radio to the FM transmitter, but the sound quality is not that great.
I opted for the hard-wired one as the whole idea of having the iPod in my car is so I don't have cd's lying about all over my car (as I did in my previous one  )
Has anyone tried both versions, is there any diffrence ????

Interesting thread and something that has been on my mind for a while.
On my classic car I have a line out > mini jack coming off the amp which I plug my iPod into, nothing fancy, no charging or display.
Could I just do this with the A2? I have the concert single CD unit.
Just take out unit fit a cable running to glove box voila!
I don't have the keys for radio removal so can't see if there is a line in on the back.

Any thoughts?

Hi - I have the integrated IceLink Plus Dension unit for my Audi - but have tried the IceLink FM in my Saab.

Unfortunately the FM version didn't work well for me. The iPod integration part was acceptable (certainly not up to the quality of the IceLink Plus) - but the radio reception was somewhat compromised as a result of having the aeriel feed intercepted.

It was particularly bad in areas where there were several FM transmissions of the same channel at similar frequencies (i.e. most of the way along my route to work ). It manifested itself as a series of clicks and pulses that could be heard over the transmission. Occassionally it would completely loose the reception tuning. I tried disabling RDS - but that didn't help.

I sent back the first IceLink FM thinking that it might be a fault on the unit - but the replacement was just as bad. I can only assume that the quality of internal components were not up to scratch.

The suppliers were quick to blame the quality of installation - but I sent them a comprehensive list of all the different installation options that I had tried (e.g. different ground points, different power points, encasing the unit in an RF shield, etc). In the end they sent me a refund. I had to resort to 'hacking' the head unit in the Saab to get a direct line in - which works a treat.

I have not had experience of the Harmon Kardon Drive + Play - one would hope that it would be of better quality. I guess the solution is to get them on a try-before-you-buy basis.

Thanks for your reply Ben, have to say, I'm quite pleased with my Dension ipod set-up now.Hard-wired into my cassette (?)/radio and it sounds fine.
Still looking for a cd/radio tho on ebay :) Hard to find one that works with the A2.
Anyone with part no's etc ????

Anybody had Halfords install the Dension Ice Link(rather than the "FM Modulator" version they advertise for £99)? If so, how much did it cost and are you happy with the job? Just got my A2 and whilst the installation instructions look fairly straightforward, I'm far too nervous of marking my beautiful new (to me) car to attempt it myself. Incidentally, you will note that this is my first post. I'm just so pleased to be able to declare my enthusiasm and admiration for my A2 TDI!!!!!

Chorus or chorus II

Can anyone tell me me whether the Dension Ipod system (not fm) works with the Chorus radio cassette players? Is this the case with Chorus 1 and 2s?

I think I have a chorus 1 and have the feeling that it doesn't have a CD changer connection with which to hook the Dension up so wanted to make sure before I go get myself one!

Hi, quick question...with regards to the bracket, the audi 01-04 is not suitable for cars with sat nav. I have an SE tdi that has a fold down screen for Sat Nav, although i don;t have it. Will this particular mount be ok?

Q: I wonder if it is possible to hook-up an iPod video to the Sat Nav Plus TV box?

I'm overseas for a while but as soon as I get back home this is my first chore.

www.dension.com says that in mid-May you will be able to get ice-link plus with video. Hopefully it will be able to display track info on the sat nav plus screen, although there's probably going to be an automatic blanking when the A2 is moving, unfortunately. Hence they say it's for integration with rear seat screens.

Yes it does, I have it with mine.,
Chorus radio'cassette, You can have either 5 playlists and control via the headunit, acting like 5 cd's, or you can put the unit onto 'cd6' and control the iPod directly, which I prefer.
I got Halfords to fit mine,£149, and it works a treat.Better than the FM link as you're listening to FM reception....apparently.
