MOT fail

Just to clarify I'm not planning on making up my own break pipes, just trying to source reliable premade ones that I'll fit when I do the brakes. I'd appreciate it if you could send a link to a suitable puller for taking off the hub and a replacement nut, cheers!

Audi have stopped making them so no "off the shelf" ones. You will need to have them copied.

As for a puller although the hub can sometime come off easily any good three legged puller if suitably shaped will work.

Nut part number

N90654502

I doubt you’ll find any, it’ll be genuine only. and long gone. Get on eBay, buy the tool and pipe and get som you tube tuition, or take old pipes to a garage for someone else to make.

Aye, since my last post I've been watching pipe flaring on YouTube, looks easy enough with the right tools. So guess what I'm doing the morn before the rugby kicks aff!

OK so just ordered a brake pipe flaring tool, roll of Kunifer brake pipe, brake pipe fittings and a mini pipe cutting tool. Won't be arriving till early next week, so gives me time to remove all the auld parts and do a clean up and VHT paint the new drums before Installation. Thanks for the advice and encouragement to do it.

You have gone to a lot of trouble to replace a pipe. Since you will have a flaring kit could you not make a pipe that will fit without removing the hub? I would have purchased copper pipe as it is extremely easy to shape/bend. The car is getting on a bit so we do not need exactness. A pipe is a pipe and if you remanufacture one that does not snag anything and is secure what more do you need. Perhaps the flaring tool might allow you to flare the pipe on the car if the pipe has an awkward shape ie fit the pipe through a recess as it might not do so with the new nut/fitment due to size etc….. if you know what I mean👍

A2Steve might have some 2nd hand ones that might do for now or clackers…. can be posted in a day or two👍

Aye I was initially wanting to remove the hub to give it a good clean up behind it, but at £11 plus vat for a new nut from VW I'm not so keen. I'm going to see how I get on with the Kunifer as it comes highly recommended (and it's now enroute to the hoose). This is all new to me so learning as I go and wanting to do the best job as I can.

I don't think you can fit the brake shoes pre assembled without removing the hub. I'm fairly certain you also have a dust cap missing. Edit, google HC7 2490, that is the number on the dust caps on my A2.

In cars past I have never removed hubs to fit shoes and respective springs. Is this not the case with he A2?

Far easier to fit fully assembled rear shoes and springs as a complete assembly on the A2, but o do this the hub need to be removed first.

What's the best stuff from your experience to use to clean this up with?

Good evening folks, just my input ... I bought a pipe flaring tool and a roll of copper brake pipe, took the old ones off and copied as best I could, also replaced handbrake cables, brake cylinders and fitted pre assembled shoes ... I didn't need to remove the hubs and didn't run into any problems ... I think I may have posted pictures somewhere on here.

Oh well as you can see the hubs aff now. Will give it a guid clean one I get the cylinders aff. Nice tip ref the Kurust. Did you use a pipe bending tool for the brake pipe?

Do it! The tool and pipe are cheap enough, it’s very easy. Just practice a few times, and remember to put the screw fitting on before swaging the end. I’ve been doing it for 30 years and still forget!😂😂😂
