Yeah he's failed it for being insecure because he's seen a broken bracket not because it was actually insecure, he hasn't tested to the criteria. Just the same with exhausts a hanger can be missing but the tester has to assess is the exhaust insecure which in the case of many modern Peugeots the missing/broken hanger makes no difference to it's overall security.
In the A2's case when the bonnet is fitted the headlamp is further secured. For me I would turn the headlights on with engine running and see if the image bounces whilst driving in the garage.
headlight has never bounced whilst idling... it is rock solid... has passed all MOT since 2018 when girlfriend started car in gear and it jumped into the corner of brick wall and cracked the lens and creased the plastic bumper shell that tore along line of metal bumper...
for all I know the bracket could have cracked and broken long before this...
so... I've just glued the bracket and also finally removed the headlamp completely...
the side light that was out was actually just out of the tube it slides into so it was working but you couldn't see it as it was inside the housing and not near where it should be... I plugged it back into the tube it goes into and all is well...
I'm letting the bracket cure before I try and slam the headlamp back in...
it was really so difficult to get access to crack to put glue onto and powder... argh... but it is done...
a neighbour was outside washing his car and I told him was was happening re: mot and he was like, just go somewhere else...
I didn't mention this before as I was a bit upset and disappointed but mechanic also said I need a new rear passenger side tire because there is a cut in it and the wires are sticking out etc and I went and had a look and couldn't see anything wrong with it...
this is a garage that I have been going to since I bought this A2 and where it passed MOT since the girlfriend/headlamp incident...
I do trust these guys but maybe they had a new mechanic do the mot or he told me the wrong tyre was damaged but I looked on all of them and they are fine...
the neighbour looked at the headlamp and he was like, it is solid it isn't moving...
I just need to pay whatever it takes and get it road worthy so I can get on with work and life etc...
also to note about this garage is they have fixed things without charging me too in the past... like they tightened up a door hinge that was getting loose and the door was starting to not close easily - when they were doing other work on it... I noticed it and they never mentioned it... I thought that was cool...
and maybe 2 years ago I had a problem with the A2 and the AA came to house and the guy said it is probably transmission related we went to garage around the corner and the estimate was something like 3,000 quid transmission replacement or something and I was like, that can't be right and when to my old normal garage (this one who does all my MOTs) and he said it was only a 120 quid repair and it has been perfect since...
