Nearly an owner.....

Thanks Tom, some very good points, particularly about the petrol/diesel pros and cons. And point also taken re the age of the car, as you say, history, condition and mileage are all important factors; and as others have mentioned, an eight plus year old car with low diesel mileage is likely to have been used mainly for short runs in any case, which as you imply is not the best scenario for the engine.

The net widens......

Hi,

Check this one out !!!!

MASSIVE spec, heated leather, OSS, Cruise, SAT NAV, Double DIN, Parking sensors, DIS etc.

BUT a cat D.

If you don't mind a cat D this is a beauty !!!

Auction but there is a "buy it now" price of £2.400.

I DEFINITELY WOULD !!!!!

I checked this one out with an HPI check and it is actually a CAT C not a Cat D. Also there is a mileage mismatch, it appeared to have done 75000 miles to Oct 2009. The next recorded mileage was following the repair after the Cat C, and the mileage was recorded as 38000. There is a full service in a duplicate service book at 38000 miles from Audi. So it seems to have been clocked during the repair and put back on the road as a low mileage car, with a service recorded at the new low mileage and the old service book 'lost'.
If the extensive damage of a Cat C car was repaired by a dealer who clocked it at the same time, then this is a car I'm going to let go.

Hi, and welcome.
I'm a recent newcomer here also and have found the advice and knowledge here absolutely excellent.

I spent ages scouring AutoTrader,EBAY,gumtree, preloved, etc etc etc. and there was little locally to me. Cars in general were advertised on all of the sites I looked at. There were a few on Exchange&Mart too.
I ended up travelling a goodly distance to find the car I eventually bought. It's relatively standard SE (not many frills), but in very good condition, good history, 131K which is low for 10 years old (My neighbour has an 04 Passat TDI that is knocking on 300K with few problems). I'm kind of seeing it as a stepping stone to full obsession :) . I'll not lie, the car has a few minor niggles, but hey it's 10 years old.

Take your time, the right car will eventually come up. Dealers seem to overprice their cars IMHO, I've seen a few dealer cars and they were not as good as the one I got, but were nearly £2000 more.

Happy hunting.

hi chris,

please dont let distance put you off, if and when you see your desired a2. i travelled 250 miles from scotland just to buy my a2 from glen aka martings (also an a2 member) i was fortunate in the way i got my a2 and to get the spec that most of us want for £2000 :)

believe me there was plenty of vultures waiting in the shadows... sorry steve ;) and no doubt others to buy my car! as i got a pretty good deal albeit a very high milage car but that didnt put me off one little bit as it was serviced and looked after with a few bits and bobs to be sorted.

just be patient as im sure you will find one to your taste and if not, you will find members on this forum will look and point you in the right direction when buying one :D there is no other forum that helps as much when it comes to this car :D

Hi

In that case the car is not a viable proposition at that price or anything like that.

A clocked category C car is the only A2 I would consider stripping for parts and this is definitely one to consider for that. But not at £2,400.

It also shows the importance of a car check before viewing

Many thanks

I contacted the seller who claims to know nothing about the mileage, they bought it from someone in their family last year,

It does seem that they may not know the history perhaps, but that is beside the point.

Category C AND Clocked, means "Only the brave should go for this one".

The bidding is already rising, I only hope nobody finds out about the history AFTER they buy it!!!

As this is being sold as a private I believe there is no legal obligation to indicate the category C (I can't believe that, perhaps it is just the old "buyer beware")

Went to see this today as the spec is eyecatching. Nice people BTW I got a cup of tea!

It's rather unloved with a few exterior marks. The interior is nice, comfort seats with lumbar support. It has a winter package. The OSS works fine. The wheels and tyres are in poor condition and don't suit the car. The car failed its last MOT on low tread both front wheels and poor flow from W/S washers. Subsequently passed so a bit concerned that 2nd hand tyres may have been obtained to get an MOT. Definitely no Service history other the a duplicate booklet with one stamp from Audi. No sign of a cam belt etc. change.
Seems to drive OK though, albeit with odd noises on full lock whilst pulling away. G/B and clutch seem fine.

Shame that it appears to have been clocked and is a CAT C rather than the advertised cat D.

Mileage is now 60,000 or thereabouts so if we add that to the 75000 previously mentioned the actual mileage would seem to be in the region of 135000, certainly the external condition would agree with the higher figure, the interior less so.
The seller has turned down £1500 stating they want at least £2200. Notwithstanding the fact that it needs a cambelt NOW say £350.00 and a full service, say £200 I think the required price is optimistic.

If how ever the mileage is genuine and the damage was cat D then its a bargin.
It would not be the first time an HPI check came up with the wrong info! so as always its caveat emptor.
