I am not sure Soul seats was available in the age of Jaipur, could it be that this car had swing seats from factory?
Might look fairly good with the Jaipur exterior perhaps?
But twist will surely not be bad either.
Evening Joakim,

Hope all is well Sir. I think you’re right, the Black Leather SE Seats are certainly not what this A2 left the factory with. I’m yet to check the option codes on the luggage space floor but already think your guess of Swing seats to be on the money.

As an interim measure I think a Soul interior with the Black Leather will work. I’ll certainly be working towards a contrasting Twist/Soul interior colour scheme; this may take a while to achieve though. For now, after Christmas Day at least, a simple Jaipur Red exterior with a complete Black interior will have to suffice.

Give me a day or 2 after Christmas to show how it looks as suggested.

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon all,

Slight gap in the clouds so I've just nipped outside to grab some interior shots.

As it’s an earlier generation A2 is comes with Hard Touch items which are still in place:

The mileage is a modest 128k which will increase once it’s ready to perform its duties as my daily:

Being of SE specification is also comes with Front Fog Lights:

And Illuminated Vanity Mirrors:

Another bonus with this splendid A2 is that the earlier style wiper arm hasn’t failed and clears the windscreen perfectly:

I’ll no doubt swap it over with a spare later style wiper arm and matching plenum cover with twin washer nets. Non-heated though but sure I can quickly sort that out when I have a spare hour or 2.

I’ll add pictures of the wider interior in the next post.

Kind regards,

THi Tom, I'm sure you will fit the newer arm but as a short term have you seen the Bosch AR70 blade?
I recently fitted something similar to my old van, essentially an aero blade for a hook style arm. I never new such a thing existed.

Tom, I'm really looking forward to the updates on this. I think the Jaipur red is one of those rarely seen colours and suspect you might go above and beyond what most of us can onky ever dream of achieving.
Morning David.

Apologies, I missed your post last night. Fingers crossed my input on this thread doesn’t disappoint any expectations. Totally agree with your thoughts and think this particular A2 deserves the very best I can provide but without going too far.

I wouldn’t suggest all of the installations Ive previously completed myself are beyond everyones ability, I consider myself quite inexperienced in many ways; a large part of it is down to having the courage to give things ago in the first place, setting aside plenty of time to conduct research/study the electrical wiring diagrams, ensuring you have enough materials along with the necessary tools and finally make sure you give yourself plenty of time to complete the task ahead.

My take is pretty much the above process with research being vital. You’d be surprised how much helpful input is on the internet, you just need to locate as much as you can and piece it together.

The summit of retrofits I have ahead of me is certainly a tall order and will commence in the New Year. I’ll share what this list may look like soon enough but from comparing the specification of this A2 to Project OEM you can probably guess what lies ahead.

Kind regards,

Tom

Tom,
Be assured it'll not disappoint whatever the mods.
Last night I ordered an A3 mirror switch with the chrome ring which was another of your very minor mods that just lifts the A2 cabin.
I'm sure I'm not the only one influenced by your excellent work and more importantly your patience and dedication to this forum taking the time to share it.

Hope you have a good Christmas and I'll hopefully see you at a social event somewhere in 2023.

Hi David,

Yes that’s another thing on the shopping list, thank you for reminding me. It integrates nicely with the chrome ring around the headlamp switch. I will eventually also obtain the chrome tipped window switches but they can be costly. I’ll set up a search and wait for a bargain.

I'm sure I'm not the only one influenced by your excellent work and more importantly your patience and dedication to this forum taking the time to share it.
Thank you for the very kind words, you and everyone else are most welcome, I enjoy doing the things I do and feel the sharing element is important on a friendly atmosphere Forum such as this fine Club.

Hope you have a good Christmas and I'll hopefully see you at a social event somewhere in 2023.
Absolutely, I’ll be at as many socials in the 2023 calendar as possible. Looking forward to a catch up.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hopefully I've bought the right thing for the mirrors.
This seemed pretty cheap (maybe too cheap) so just went ahead.

Hi David,

That looks to be good to go. Here’s the post where I mention fitting a factory mirror switch from an A3:

The part number is 4F0959565 from the Audi A6 C6 I think. Works exactly as it should, even the mirror dip with ColorMFA. I see no reason why your purchase wouldn’t function as intended.

Thanks again for reminding me my shopping list needs to increase.

Less for the G263 sensor failing. Guess I'll replace that when I have the single DIN dashboard removed for a double DIN transplant.

Something else I wanted to see functional within the utterly gorgeous A2 was the Webasto. With the ambient temperature too warm since this acquisition the Webasto hasn't been requested to fire up automatically. I went through the Output Tests a couple of times and checked for faults:

1671876116504.jpeg

So went straight to the Measuring Blocks to put the assembly through a test run:

1671876160835.jpeg

I see the interior lights flicker which I guessed to be the draw of the glow plug coming to life, went outside to the front of the vehicle and was happy to be welcomed to a warm supply of fumes exiting the exhaust. A working Webasto is of course a wonderful thing.

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon all,

Whilst rightfully spending quality time with the family over the last few days I’ve now been unable to get outside to tinker.

With a small gap between visitors here at 2work Towers I thought I’d nip out side to admire this beautiful recent acquisition. Soon as I put the key into the ignition the half DIS presented me with a temperature I know should see the Webasto jump into action:

4869B334-6B93-4157-B30B-5CBEEB63604C.jpeg

I made sure that the climate control unit was set to high and the fan turned up, also ensured the Econ button wasn’t selected:

84213C06-620E-4CC7-B969-F40D4613BDC8.jpeg

With much anticipation I went outside to the front of the vehicle to test if there was indeed a warm flow of exhaust fumes coming from the Webasto.

There was, the Webasto is alive. Super chuffed with this outcome. It’s amazing how quick the cabin temperature rises with the auxiliary heater working as it should.

Still yet to get the tools out but this will happen before I hit the roads on the 4th of January.

Hope everyone had a great day yesterday, enjoy the leftovers!

Kind regards,

Tom

Hello all,

Been a little quiet on these pages recently whilst concentrating my time with family and friends but can promise you that the work involving getting this beautiful A2 ready for commuting have since started. You'll notice form the pictures within Post #13 & 14 that the interior was a 2-tone Swing and Soul scheme. This has been adjusted over the last few days.

The works completed so far is to completely remove the Swing element to replace it with Soul. Some pictures below with more to follow but the task included swapping the following items (in no particular order):

1. Glovebox
2. Lower drivers side dashboard trim panel (which houses the fuse box cover)
3. Centre console to a Double DIN variant for a handbrake tray
4. Footrest along with both front carpets
4. All 4 door seals
5. Both front door interior sill trim panels
5. Both upper and lower B Pillar trim panels
6. Both rear door interior sill trim panels
7. Rear carpet
8. Both C Pillar trim panels
9. Luggage space carpet and associated trim items
10. False Floor (whilst there I added twin luggage space illumination and 12v socket
11. Luggage space rear trim panel (added the rubber stowage strap)
12. Luggage space load cover
13. Rear screen fabric trim panels

Basically every Swing item has been replaced for a Soul variant. A darker interior within this stunningly coloured exterior works quite well to my eyes. Very happy with the outcome so far, its taken a few hours (probably around 6 hours and plenty of knuckle rash).

Whilst the centre console was off I drilled 2x 4.5mm holes (tapped out to 6mm) just above the VIN plate below the handbrake adjustment nut. This was to add a Soul A6 C5 Armrest which is topped with a Black Leather lid. Additionally whilst the rear carpet was removed I also removed 2 of the rear seat centre pivot point bolts...... Yes for a Rear Cup Holder Rear Bracket, which were refitted along with the rear bracket after the carpet was put back in place. The addition of the Handbrake Tray (with QI wireless charger), Armrest and Rear Cup Holder make such an improvement to a poverty spec Centre Console.

The front Black Leather SE Seats were also swapped for my rare Black Leather Heated SE Seats that sport Electric Lumbar Support. These enhanced features are yet to incorporated into the vehicles harness but that'll happen when I have time. The necessary information to complete these retrofits has been located and saved for reference for when I have time. The looms are slowly being made up in the garage but will probably wait until the warmer weather arrives. The main reason is that the carpets, whist removed, weren't fully cleaned due to not wanting to risk damp within the cabin, warmer weather will ensure a quicker complete drying process before they're refitted when next removed for a series of retrofits I have up my sleeve.

The colour swap isn't 100% just yet as the door cards remain to be swapped, they're in the garage waiting for some leatherette armrest door cards which I can recolour to Black with some furniture Clinic product. I know the purists out there will of course know that the leatherette armrests only come in limited colours, with Black not being one of them. I feel a recolour is a necessary thing to do which will ensure the completely black interior has as much luxury (Leather) as possible.

I hope you'll like the way it now looks as I personally think its amazing. After spending soo much time in Project OEM with its Twist/Soul interior colour scheme I though a full Black interior might be a little boring, It actually looks pretty awesome to be honest and it just works with the Jaipur Red exterior colouring.

First commute in the refreshed cabin tomorrow morning. More thoughts and ideas to follow in the coming days.

Kind regards,

Tom

That looks great Tom, what a massive improvement from when you started, looks far more modern than the swing grey and in far better condition. I'm guessing there will be an A1 steering wheel on the horizon?

Afternoon Simon,

HNY to you, noted you request earlier Sir:

If you ever want to part with the soul seats, the queue starts here!

Well if you have a set of black leather SE seats going spare..............
The queue starts here!

As I only have 3x interiors here that are accommodated within the 3x A2s then none are available unfortunately:
Hello Simon,

I’d certainly swap the Heated Electric Lumbar Black Leather SE Seats for a set of Heated Black Leather Sport Seats if that helps Sir. 👍

Kind regards,

Tom

I'll keep you in mind if anything changes though.

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon Steve,

Your thoughts are spot on. I have a spare Audi A5 FBMFSW (8K0419091CK) ready to go. I have the A3 steering wheel controller along with most of the loom already made up, just need the corresponding single stage Audi A3 airbag (8V0880201AL) now. I could just liberate/borrow one from one of the fleet though. As this is a fairly quick retrofit I'll no doubt do it one evening this coming weekend. That said, commuting with the skinny SE leather steering wheel may see this particular retrofit move up the pecking order rather quickly.

Kind regards,

Tom

I feel your pain, the one in the black TDI has worn through and is sticky, so I can't wait to swap it over to a 3-spoke sport one as soon as the new breaker arrives.

Hi Steve,

Might this new breaker be the one that might assist with my head unit dilemma. Happy to push West to Aberdare Sir.

Kind regards,

Tom

Sick with envy
Evening Ed,

Glad you like what I’ve presented so far. I also hope you enjoy the future instalments Sir. I have acquired/a lead on almost all that I need to see this splendid A2 sport very similar specification to that seen in Project OEM.

I’m hoping to have most of the retrofits complete before the first Summer social. Some of which (the simpler ones) will start this coming weekend.

Kind regards,

Tom

That is one sexy car in the making :)
Evening Thomas,

Very happy to read you like what’s been shown so far. Even more humbled by your confidence in the ability of my tool kit and ambition. Fingers crossed I don’t disappoint Sir.

One of the first things to address is that skinny round steering wheel. Actually in the garage right now giving the spare FBMFSW a dust off and some leather treatment.

More to follow in the next couple of days.

Kind regards,

Tom
