Replacing Central Convenience Unit?

Hey Spike, just seen you're in Richmond... if I were to buy the new unit do you know of anywhere round ere I can find someone with a VAG? I'm in Ripon.

You have got Mike Skipton not a millon mile from you in Mossley.

He is the A2 guru there is not a lot he dose not know or can do on the A2.

He has done a lot on my car and has done a first class job on my car.

I consider a trip from Cambridge well worth the drive to get his expertise.

If you go down the repair rout I beleve there is a spare ccu in the uk to use when yours is beeing repaired, so you should not be off the road:D

Cheers

I'll definitely keep that in mind - for future issues. But think I can sort this one here. Hope! Had already clocked Skipton for any mods... ;)

This is going to sound pretty dumb but where is the Convenience unit? Engine bay? Need to give Lau the VAG number....

If you don't know its not a dumb question. Everyone on here started from the same place and learnt from there. I am just glad I can help others.

It is under the pasenger footwell.

If you lift the carpet you will see a cover, if you remove this you will find the ccu under there

Chaps,

I have my original CCCU for sale after an upgrade. It’s 100% working and I’m happy to fit as well for a small fee for my time.

The CCCU is part No. 8Z0 959 433 Q.

This works with keys with part No.’s 8Z0 837 231 / (i.e. without the alpha suffix after the / (see pic of key).

I am asking £100 for this item and will ship at cost.

If anyone is interested please drop me a PM.

Cheers

Jeff

Okay. This will sound dumber than the last one... I notice the car still has ignition lights etc but not windows... Can it be driven still if I send this thing off to Lau for fix?

That one I am not sure on. But i think it controls the imobilizer ect so I don't think so.

But I am sure someone else will be able to let you if you can or not.

Think you're probably right Riverlad. I didn't try firing it up just in case...

Is that the same thing - CCU / Convenience Unit Mustang? Mine's numbered 8Z0 959 433 E

Think if I can get this one off to Lau I'm going to do that - will work with my keys then and not require reprogrammed with VAG.

It appears you can run the car without the CCU - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?t=14670&highlight=convenience
I guess you just loose all the features it controls

A word of warning, if you do send to old one for repair, don't post cash - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showpost.php?p=120049&postcount=3

I've got VagCom and would be happy to help, especially if you could make it up to Richmond

Ahh interesting. Could drive it at a push then. That's great Spike. If I get lucky with a new one I'll be coming to see you soon!

Speakin of which do you know if a 8Z0 959 433N unit will replace my 8Z0 959 433E without grief?

Yes driving the car with no CCU is fine, did it myself for two weeks.

Clearly you loose comfort functionality, remote locking, windows, alarm etc.

I also couldnt lock the rear doors without it, only the front with the key.

Fuel flap you have to manually unlock from inside the boot when you want to fill.

Sorted. Going to send it off to Lau tomorrow :p

Weird thing is that with it fitted the drivers door only opened when you used the key and you had to put it in the ignition to get the other doors to pop. Now without it fitted the whole lot pop open and close on operation of the drivers door...

Thanks for help all. Will let you know how it goes when I get it back.

Hello folks! received the CCU back yesterday from Lau. Unfortunately the problem still persists - the keys do nothing.

Now, I'm thinking this could be down to the fact that the keys haven't been used for such a long time due to the fault and are no longer registered with the CCU - fixed or not. OR the CCU is still kaput and Lau couldn't do anything with it (I've not heard owt from him to suggest this).
So. Calling Spike....
Can I pop up to you at some point mate to have a look with that VAG doohicky?

Cheers!
Aaron

Hi Aaron

If any of the keys is not from the original car I won't be able to help. For this you need an SKC code to allow programming of the keys and Skipton 01 is the only local person with the equipment to sort it out.

Cheers Spike

Hmmm. b****r. Not sure if either of them are original to the car... don't suppose there's any easy way to tell??

Is it worth popping up to you to check first?

Where abouts is Skipton?
Skipton would be good :)
