Sat nav location

Here are some photos.

1. The cradle side view. Note the crocodile clips. These sometimes come loose when setting it up in the A2.

2. The cradle in the A2. I put black PVC insulation tape over the top air vent flap to stop them getting scratch by the crocodile teeth.

3. SatNav in position. Camera close to my eyes.

4. Touching the SatNav screen. The cradle could go in the right-hand vent but will be a bit blocked when the hands are on the streering wheel.

Sometimes takes one or two goes to make the clips fully engage and not pop out but once set up I've not had any problems with it falling off.

Have you seen the thread where one chap cut out the square "recess" in the top of the dash and made it hinge up to show a satnav? It did involve adapting the air vents that are underneath. And of course you only get one go cutting it out - make a bodge and it's a new dash with all that entrails replacing the bodged one. Such a set up brings the satnav up higher but also further away.
What type of cradle and where did you get it from please.

When you get to drive one you'll find the A-pillar is rather large in your forward/side vision. So a satnav to the right hand side sitting inline with the bottom of the A-pillar in your view would be well in your vision but not obscure anything else.
Yes, the only reason this position is not ideal would be because it’s as far away from the cig lighter socket as it’s possible to get - so if you’re planning on installing a new power socket / supply then that negates this as a drawback.

I absolutely detest wires hanging all over the place ... they have to be hidden or my OCD would drive me crazy

I have fitted a12v and USB block adapter under the dash near the steering wheel. From this I have USB for the phone charging,USB for the dash cam and 12V socket for the camera detector and 12v socket for the sat nav currently. All this takes its power directly from an ignition live in the main fuse box through its own fuse. All leads are either through the dash or around the a pillar and roof trim.
I am currently looking into changing the sat nav as I hate it on a mount either screen or dash for something different, but not had much progress yet.

I'm sure it came with the satnav. It has the advantage that the satnav clips to the cradle using lugs on the cradle.

I just looked on ebay using words like

Car Phone Holder Mount Cradle Universal Air Vent Bracket

Some are for phones but given phones are bigger now may work with satnav. But all the ones I saw only had 1 clip but broader than my clips. Lots of filters on the left side of the screen.

Good luck.

I had a special flat piece of acrylic made up that fitted inside the cubby hole for the outback that kept it secure even on rough off road tracks ..
