Skipton Autos

Mike, you will stay on the track and find a job.

Let me come up with some good news here:
I got a job (for five years) as a scientist since wednesday.

Nice one Andre - pleased for you!

I thought at first you were saying I should become a racing driver there: I "will stay on the track".

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike,
Hope things work out for you job-wise in the near future.
The replies on here highlight how much you, your skills, expertise and support are greatly valued.
All the best,
ST

These are strange times indeed Mike - but something will come along that will suit your unique blend of skills.

It'll be good to catch up next week. Take it easy.

Ben

Unique blend of skills eh? I'll take it as a compliment;)

Thanks to one and all for your support and for your kind words, I'm sure that they have helped keep me in a positive frame of mind over the last 24 hours and I really am confident in what the future will bring: I'll still be a wage slave, but will have so much more freedom as to how I make the numbers add up. The way that the modern tv industry is going, there is no career to be had now anyway - the industry is pretty much on its last legs with declining advertising revenues and the rise of new media (internet streaming etc).

Everything is being made by the lowest bidder now and it's not unusual for young people to work for nothing on a production, just to get a foot in the door, only to then realise that the pay doesn't improve much when they're 'in'. In a way, I'm glad to be out of the treadmill, with a decent payout and the prospect of regular freelance work (Jeremy Kyle will still be made in Manchester for the forseeable future, as will Coronation Street, both my bread and butter over the last 3 years), but I'll have more time to pursue other interests and seek out a new career insomething that I really enjoy and has a more secure future going forward.

Thanks again everyone for all that you've said and done - it means a lot to me.

Cheers,

Mike

Dear Mike,

It is not that bad changing careers I did it 3 years ago and I haven't looked back! I was in engineering for 12 years and loved it but when I got my cards for a second time because my job was moved to China I took the hint and moved out of that field. I now work in the health suppliments sector (same job) but it looks like as long as there are old people I should be ok!!! And I still keep my hand in as our IT department are useless so I get to sort out all the office equipment!!
And just for fun I am looking to do it all over again because in 8 months the only reason I work finishes so watch this space??????

I'm a bit like you and see that things happen for reasons - by this I mean as one door shuts many more open.
Many good things will come you way as the cream always rises to the top
(not as they say in Barnsley:'**** floats')

Mike,

Just seen your message and sorry to hear of your news. I know from when we met recently you are not unduly worried and very positive about the future. I have been through this sitution myself 3 times before and believe a positive outlook such as yours always pays dividends with lots of opportunities just seeming to become available.
