Autumn cleaned happy car now.

SHE continues to behave well, but at least some workshop activity was called for today. Winter wheels on. Although 15.5C here today 🙂.

Today SHE was upgraded with an Audi radio, a Concert 2.
So I can confirm that it can be done to get full functionality with a gen 2 radio in an early (2001) car which is designed to only use gen 1 radios which dont communicate over CAN. No CANbus emulator is needed.

To succeed I needed to supply the comfort CANbus to the radio. I branched out the bus at the climate unit but it can also be found at the instrument cluster.
And it works well, I wasnt sure all required messages were present on the CANbus on these early cars, but Yes.
The button illumination works and the radio powers up and down following the key on and removal.

I also assured I had the K line connected to the radio.
In my case I hadnt from start so I branched that too from the climate unit. And now I can talk to the radio from VCDS.
