Today I.....

This is @Proghound post #2000 so I thought I'd better do something special(-ish).
Congratulations on the milestone. I recently reached the 5000 mark, but I've been here for over a decade. At your current rate, you'll overtake me in no time! If PMs counted towards my post count, it'd be another matter.

Great to see such a nice photo of your fleet. It brings back fond memories of living in your house for weeks on end, and working on a steady stream of A2s on your driveway. One day, once the Covid-19 pandemic is deeper into history, I hope to be back. :)

Warm regards,

Tom

I don't actually post so much in the public forum these days, but Admin forum posts and Likes count towards the totals as well. My first 1000 posts took about 16 months, the rest only about 9 months and I've been in the Admin team for a year now.

I look forward to that day Tom, I've got plenty lined up for you to do. Let me know as soon as you feel you can travel and stay over: this time I intend to take annual leave from work as much as possible so I can spend the time out there with you.

I rang up my insurers, RAC, enquiring about swapping from 17" 205/40s to a more comfortable standard size 15". An extra £35 plus an £25 admin fee. I asked whether this would be a one-off cost to register both wheel sets as I may want to use Winter tyres and switch back next spring. I was amazed when they said each swap would cost the same.
Are their other insurers which don't have such limited policies? I just want more comfort sand not to be fleeced at the same time.
My understanding is that if its a factory fit its fine and most policys i have read say the same, wouldnt worry about it if i was you

Finally poked a hole in my spoiler to let all that slushing water out, took a good few minutes for all that pee-yellow foamy water to come out. Staining the glass, and the paintwork, in the process...

I must admit I thought it was just going to be a quick call and a "sure, that's fine..", but no. They wanted money every time even if just for winter tyres. I am not happy. Hence, why I am looking for a accomodating insurer. Thanks for the replies people, @Howey and @Rusty911.

Check for policy wording it maybe the phone opperator was hearing "non standard wheels = modification= kerching!
Bet they didnt even list all permitted wheel/tyre sizes, bet they didnt know what size wheels/tyres your car came with, doubt any insurer does so with that in mind, whats to get concerned about?

Well yesterday I removed the throttle body and adapter plate and cleaned loads of carbon from the underside of the throttle body and unblocked the breather pipe and cleared the EGR port which was 3/4 or more blocked with deposits. That should get rid of the occasional Light and code of P0401 insufficient flow. The only downside is I dropped the EGR pipe to Inlet gasket down into the depths of the engine. After taking off the under tray and crawling around with a torch and using a Lidil TFT camera no luck. So I DM'd Tom at Crewe Audi, and even as it was after 5pm he replied and part ordered. Great Service indeed.

Not today, but yesterday I doubled my A2 fleet. Counting them all up, it seems I now have two.

1.6 FSi, I wouldn't call it a project, but I'll work through it regardless after I've done the recently acquired TT. 160k miles, but mostly the right sort. Not been on the road for a while so needs a re-commission, belts, freeing off of brakes and so on.

No doubt I'll hog some club bandwidth with another thread as I have enjoyed doing the Bale / Break one (itself not quite ended yet).

Given this, like the Devon car, was on here as 'too good to scrap?', it's in a different league as a starting point. Has a lovely feel to it and can't wait to drive it.

Thank you Russell :)

Just look at that sky! No editing or enhancements other than any in-camera JPEG trickery. Plates are off the A2 as had a private plate. Russell has very kindly provided brand new plates with the original number which was a bonus.
