Now I just need to break the news to my wife šŸ˜¬ I thought it would go for far more and have no idea what Iā€™m going to do with it!!

Congrats Erling :) Do we need to be recommending good divorce lawyers? :D
I hope it's an easy restore to rectify the neglect it's had over the years Paint and leather restoration will be the costliest bits from what I remember seeing.

Thanks Ian. I hoping that wonā€™t be necessary but time will tell!!!

I fear the mechanicals will be the place to start as it sounds like itā€™s got gear box issues along with an intermittent EML. We shall see.

Nothing like a project to get your teeth into, just ask @A2Steve šŸ˜‚

Look fab!!
Whats the ride like?
Imagine fitting the tyres are a PITA and probably an expensive tyre option too but they do look epic tbf!

Iā€™m running 18ā€™s now with 215/35/18ā€™s on and for many Iā€™m sure itā€™s too harsh but Iā€™m happy with it even on coilovers. These are slightly narrower than the 18ā€™s on at present so will be ever so slightly more sidewall!

I ... have no idea what Iā€™m going to do with it!!
Obviously I'm theorising without knowing how bad the rest of the mechanicals are, but I think the only way it makes sense is to resolve the clutch and EML issues as cheaply as possible, and have the goodies off it. You don't have to spend anything to remove the Votex, likewse you can replace the heated leather seats & climate with standard items for very little money. Then sell it on with MOT as a bargain runner to someone who's not fussy about the cosmetics. You're left with the goodies which you can either use and have the value of, or sell on to make it probably come to a zero-sum game, but not much more than that. At least another A2 is kept on the road in the process.

Thatā€™s definitely my ā€˜failsafeā€™ position however if I can do right by the car and keep it intact economically I will do.

I would love heated sports leather (Iā€™m currently slumming it with non heated sports leather and alcantara) in the 1.2 so thatā€™s a possibility if itā€™s no viable keeping 3 A2ā€™s and it needs moving on I guess.

Itā€™s a 1.4 Petrol BBY by the way. Not tried driving it again. I canā€™t due to a Ruptured Right Achilles Tendon. Mrs does not want to drive it in case it breaks down. I have tried starting it several times since Timmus kindly did the Scan and Reset. Started straight away every time, so far !

No change for me. 10 Weeks since my Right Achilles Tendon ruptured stepping off the Train onto the Platform at Zurich Airport. Still laid up but having Physio now. Starting the A2 daily. Mrs has driven it around the block once ( Arnside and back ). No fault has reoccurred but she does not have confidence in the A2 to take it out for a proper run.

Not wearing the Ossur Air Walker Rebound Boot 24/7 now. Taking it off at Night, so that feels great ! Treatment Plan was to start Weaning me off the Boot 8 Weeks Post Injury, so Iā€™m still on schedule. Started a Private Physio as had not heard from NHS Physio. Then NHS Physio phoned me to see them the very next day. NHS Physio wanted to see me 2 Weeks after first Appointment. Booking sent me Appointment 4 Weeks later. Probably have to stick with Private Appointments. Itā€™s a long and very frustrating job !

Thank you all. Got the DVLA MOT Reminder for the 1966 Beetle today. Expires 2nd June. No idea if I will be allowed to drive by then. Will phone Rob at Mainline MOT Centre in the morning to ask when he can fit it in. Then persuade Mrs to drive it there. Should be no problem. It runs fine.

Regards,

Steve U

Finally picked up Audrey form the bodyshop where she had been delivered back from @timmus / Tomā€™s in Lancaster from having all the upgrades done. She is fully de-lacquer peeled and now sports fully resprayed bonnet, wings, door mirrors, door handles, roof and rear bumper (as she now has parking sensors / PDC fitted thanks to @rosscanning selling me the complete setup needed:

Thereā€™s a slight colour mid-match between the bonnet (which was painted separately along with the roof and bumper) and the front wings. The bodyshop have asked me to let it cure a week or two in case it settles down (I doubt it will based on past experience but happy to humour them); theyā€™ve offered to redo the bonnet and wings together for free if Iā€™m not happy.

I did previously post the updated view of some of the upgrades Tom has fitted to the cockpit but here they are again:

Plus here are the new keys with a knackered old one for comparison:

A very enjoyable 10 minutes exploring the colour DIS was had just now after I paired my phone with the Audi Bluetooth and streaming functionality after having clicked it into the now neatly hardwired charging cradle - Overall, all I can say is what a transformation! With the subtle new sports wheel with multifunction controls, at least a decade has been wiped off how old the car ā€œfeelsā€ now. Iā€™ll do a proper write-in my blog thread in due course.

Also I fuelled up on the way home and even with all the moving around on/off trailers and into / out of workshops etc. the car will undoubtedly have been doing over the last few weeks, Spritmonitor tells me the tank average is 55mpg so happy with that, hoping for somewhere close to 60mpg at next fill-up - especially with current fuel prices!!!

Really looking forward to growing old with this now-uniquely special A2.

Great stuff, basically an almost new car now! No doubt just using a modern key makes it feel newer, the cars set for another decadevat least

Yes thatā€™s exactly the feeling it gives, the key just completes that illusion.

The whole car feels just like a proper modern to use now, it doesnā€™t feel like a modified car (that was my deliberate intention with all the upgrades), itā€™s just a car thatā€™s now easily as capable as that nearly-new Skoda Fabia estate I was thinking of buying back in 2020 when I first then looked at the A2 as an alternative.

May I ask please, was the key upgrade straight swap or is there more involved?
