I noticed in traffic Tonka was noisier than normal so when I pulled over I had a look underneath and found this.

I drove the 4 miles home. The noise (which I attributed to the exhaust crack) got appreciably louder in the last 1/4 mile and on pulling up I found this. The tyres are less than 1500 miles old Unfortunately time precludes investigation or any remedy today however I’m now praying no 3rd A2 calamity befalls me.
There’s a full stainless exhaust on this car and I’d say that’s a poor weld that needs taking back to the original fabricator for remedy.Had two calamities on Tonka, both within half an hour or one another.

The rears are still the original spring and shocks, albeit posh springs and shocks though aren't they? There’s a full stainless exhaust on this car and I’d say that’s a poor weld that needs taking back to the original fabricator for remedy.
The coilovers are Bilstein B12 from memory and are fully adjustable for camber too. Way more than the A2 needs
Sadly no idea who that was however I’ve a man who can who welded up the flexi section last year. There’s a full stainless exhaust on this car and I’d say that’s a poor weld that needs taking back to the original fabricator for remedy.

I’ll take some pics either on Sunday or later next week when the wheels offThe rears are still the original spring and shocks, albeit posh springs and shocks though aren't they?
Mac.
The welds look to have just been pooled from the tube(melting the 2 edges together) with no additional rod fed into it , leaving it prone to cracking although looking neat. There’s a full stainless exhaust on this car and I’d say that’s a poor weld that needs taking back to the original fabricator for remedy.

I don’t know the kit, but coilover rears are different to standard as they have adjusters at the bottom of the cupThe rears are still the original spring and shocks, albeit posh springs and shocks though aren't they?
Mac.
Does the spring on the opposite side look so compressed as well?Had two calamities on Tonka, both within half an hour or one another.

When I’m back with the car tomorrow I’ll take some pictures and revert. Comparing the two sides was going to be my 1st course action because when inspecting the exhaust (pre any issue with the tyre) and taking that photo I didn’t think the spring looked any different to normal.Does the spring on the opposite side look so compressed as well?
Looks like the spring failure, which could explain the overload on 1 side and causing the tyre wall to prematurely wear out.

Happy Birthday A2!
On 7th May 2003 I took delivery of my brand new A2. Today is her 14th Birthday :-) Back in November I posted a thread 'today has been a bad day' when I was in the middle of a three car accident. My insurance company informed me that they were declaring my car 'a total loss' and would send...r.tapatalk.com
