Today I.....

First wash and brush up of the year, tried out some Meguiars Ultimate and going to try some DoDo Juice polish tomorrow morning before it gets too hot. Seen both mentioned here and very happy with the results. Front wheels off tomorrow to start PB Blasting front suspension bits and pieces in the expectation that more sunny days will be forthcoming and I can rebuild the front suspension!

Do do juice is the dogs dangly bits. The water beads off great and lasts for months

I picked up my Fsi beam from the blasters and got painting! I’ve got just about everything to rebuild it, just waiting for a couple of bits before it’s ready to rebuild

Latest, the power file that was due to arrive mid next week arrived later this afternoon. Have it a try on the seized bolt for 20 mins slowly sanding it away. That with the heat produced allowed it to become free. Result.
Next started on the 20 year old o/s pressed wishbone.

Much worse than it first looked a warning ⚠️ to All to go and take a good look at yours.

Just the n/s wishbone to remove and bushes then I'm at the ordering stage.
Should I go to 288mm brakes on the rebuild as one side has been helicoiled 🤔
New parts have been arriving this week, so put with the old & in with the new.

Has anyone fitted New poly lower wishbone bushes front and rear. I'm going from pressed to cast steel wishbones.
What kit No's did you use?
Either Powerflex or PSB will do, not had much sense from the Tech guy at PSB so far.
The hexagonal section on the cast is slightly larger when I measured it
Still on the original 2003 bushes !!!

Cheers Stan.

@A2Steve should be able to advise but he’s probably busy today!

Hi Stan
Thats an impressive collection of parts you have there. I‘m contemplating much the same on mine although I have only amassed the front strut parts as yet

As I have been cultivating a grumbly front off side bearing (too be confirmed today) I was contemplating replacing these at the same time.

I note from the picture that you had got all new steering knuckles with the bearings already fitted. This is a thought I was having as it saves buying some specialist tools and hopefully speeds up the fitting process. I also think I spot new CV/drive shaft assemblies which is a possibility as I don’t want to get things stripped out and then find I can’t separate the hub from the drive shaft and lack the specialist tools to tackle. Was that your thinking as well and can I ask what you went for for shafts and knuckles and where you got them please?

Many thanks in advance and best of luck, I’m watching with interest.

Best wishes

Justin

Hi Justin just got back in after drilling out the console bushes for the rear wishbone mounts.
Here goes.
All via that well known *Bay site.
Febi front brake discs £46-64. Car Parts in Motion.
L&R Steering knuckles all built up with hubs, bearings and dust plates (sit down) £299 (cheaper to buy in a set) Unit 15 Dewsbury.
Both half shafts ( look very good) £142-08 J&R Trading, Birmingham. Also got new ABS sensors but still need the ABS rings (forgot them).
Got new springs, shocks drop links etc via Auto D** a few years back along with the cast steel wishbones from an ao2c member.

Just need the poly bush info now.

After 20 years & 130+K miles it was ready for a treat or two.
Hope this helps.
Stan.

Thanks Stan, that’s very useful, I’ll have a surf. Thanks

Today I collected my wife after she dropped her modern Audi at our local dealership. While I was helping pick out her ‘next car’, the cheeky sales team took a shine to my 22 year old A2 and marked it with official Audi stickers as ‘sold’ and ‘awaiting preparation’! I wonder how much they might have got for it…!? Clearly somebody at Audi Guildford is a fan of our little cars…

Doesn't look like very much preparation is required in my eyes

I think the A2 is now thought of better by the main dealers than it was 23 years ago
They hatted it back then and would much prefer to sell an A3 than an A2
Maybe just maybe the A2 as now come of age (of course the A2OC community has know and understood this fact for a long time)

Today we had a test run ready for "Not quite the Lakes" tour on 3rd June which will touch on Coniston, Esthwaite and Windermere.
There will be a list on the thread soon for people to choose their meal for the Saturday evening from @Teresa
Let's hope it stays dry 🤞

I am considering buying a used one (in good shape) and give it a similar treatment so that when the time comes I will be ready :)

I was hoping to get a bit further on but hey ho.

The n/s wiring loom got it's repair thanks to a section from @A2Steve.
Then the poly bushes turned up at lunch, great I can put it all together only to find that the PSB rears fit but the fronts are nowhere near for cast steel wishbones the fronts are 148K. The fears are 160K. As I don't want to wait until mid June for rubber bushes I have contacted my local garage who will have them in by tomorrow (Moog).
New ARB bushes to go on as my last job of today.
Hopefully I can go again at the weekend without anymore drama, but again it is an A2.
Don't we just love it.
Some images for you.
Stan.
