Today I've experienced a rather scary issue.
I know and happened to me as well before, when the brake guard picks up a stone chip and for a bit that grinds against the brake disc. This issue was nothing like that, 10x louder and now warning lights too.
I was driving today, when suddenly the ASR, traction control, light came on and seconds later, 3 very loud metal banging noise, like chainsaw hit the front left brake area, and then loud "puff", like something fell off. All start-up lights came on, along with the beeping red (!) on the mid display. I've been dealing with MAP sensor issues, so this didn't help at all.
I was close to home, so drove back like that. After re-starting the car, the ASR and (!) disappeared. Breaks worked normal.
An hour later I was driving again and 5min in the ASR began flashing and all lights with (!) came on again, with some noise from brakes again, just less loud. I was prepared and applied brake, but to my shock, it was heavy and shaking like never before. The car began shaking violently too, until it came to a stop. Stopped for a bit, then drove back, brakes worked good again.
At home I drove up on the ramp to look around, but nothing out of ordinary. No loose bits, nothing seems fallen off, just the broken/disconnected brake pad thickness (if I recall it correctly) sensor, which been like that before I bought the car 2+ years ago, just like the split/greasy hub.
Brake pad and disc seem fine, no leaks, brake fluid is dirty but same level as before.
Anyone ever came across this issue?
