You can get generic bolt covers that will fit fine.Arranged some pepperpots for 100€ with two bolt covers missing, only to find out that covers cost 25€/each on average, the same as the rim lol.

Awesome work! That brake fluid reservoir is a pain, Mr Grey has a knock and with vehicle sat on floor if you grab hold of the top of the wheel and shake you can feel the movement in the shocker/top mount, makes no difference which it is as all will be replaced with some preloved jobbies!Today I got A new MOT with no advisories. On a return trip home recently I had a front knocking noise. A broken spring was revealed so further investigation suggested renewing the lot, after 22 years it was probably all tired out and nearing its MOT would benefit from a refresh. Following much advice from the forum and Youtube I ordered the bits. Munroe (Shocks, springs, top mounts, bump stops, dust covers, anti roll bar links Thanks George) Front Discs & pads, flexi brake hoses and splash guard plates. Brake fluid and even a coil spring compressor as I'd never had to do this before but after a £374 Autodoc order fixing it finally commenced. I wasn't wrong. The shocks I removed were past their best - zero spring return. Top bearings although still functioning while fitted fell apart on removal. Track rod end nuts had to be sawn off so replaced both track rod ends. All fitted after a few days then up to the local garage to check and tighten the bits I'd not been able to torque properly and check for MOT. New rear drums, shoes (which I already had) and cylinders were fitted as one side had the lining material starting to break up and a new control arm boot fitted.
It feels like a different car as you waft along. No MOT certificate issued anymore. They will print one if you ask for it but apparently as of this week you no longer get a paper copy as the online one is all you now need to have. Fresh oil and a filter next week and the under tray can go back on for another year, I hope. (Unless I decide to have the cam belt done.) And I didn't even mention moving the brake fluid reservoir - eek.
Oh dear, well we know what's involved and there isn't a spray on solution from a can. Thanks and good luck with your problem.Awesome work! Ouch! That's a nasty surprise George. It could have been worse though, it could have been the offside front! Although I don't doubt you'll replace everything both sides anyway.I got into Rosie the other day and got about 50m from the house and there was an incredible, horrible crunchy sound from the left front.
I got her up on the ramp and found this.
So my turn next Dave. @Dunbikin !
Botheration!!!!

HiToday I discovered that (surprise surprise) life with a FSi will come with its challenges. Taking her for a spin this afternoon, the EML came on, and stayed on after I left her standing and restarted. No obvious outward symptoms otherwise, still appears to run absolutely fine. I was going to ask whether it would be unwise to carry on driving her when I discovered an old thread fro @PlasticMac that firmly warned me that it would be, at least until I know what the problem is. As it happens there’s a Proboost ECU on its way in the post to me (thanks @A2Steve) as i decided it would be best to have one just in case. I was undecided as to whether to install it right away but now I’ve got a problem it seems obvious that I should, and hope that it miraculously fixes the problem.
But obviously I know I need to scan it and I’m a complete newbie at this. It sounds as if for now VCDS Lite would be the way to go. I assume this is what I need?
What other hardware do I need? Here it just says an “appropriate interface”.
I read a lively discussion about the relative merits of VCDS lite vs the full fat version but hopefully the former would be ok for a start. Can anybody point me at some instructions as to how I do a scan, as far as I can see there’s no instructions on the above link besides how to get started.

I’d suggest fitting the Proboost and then see if an EML re-occurs. Then worry about it if it does.
It’s not a wonder solution, but there are lots of factors on the FSI that can bring on an EML. The PB should help. That’s what I was thinking of doing… I take it that Proboost has been known to extinguish the EML then without any other remedial work? In the meantime I’ll drive her sparingly.
They have them on the Gendan site (where you can buy full VCDS too if required)Although I’m going to wait for Proboost and cross my fingers that fixes it, I still think I ought to arm myself with VCDS, feels like a sound investment, especially lite. This just leaves what hardware interface I need, looked at the wiki and it was a little bit vague, I thought I needed a USB one for lite. Can anyone point me at exactly what I need? Thanks
