Twin exhaust fitted :)

I think my 3.0V6 quattro had a single merged cat in the middle, which then split back into two pipe runs to the back of the car, whilst my 5cyl S2 quattro had twin pipes out of the single back box.

The reason for the twin pipes is because I prefer the look of the twin exhaust, maybe I will see an a2 with a single exhaust poking out and like it but I am happy with my choice. Besides whilst the car is parked up looking good :)cool:) who knows whats under the bonnet. I believe a 1.8t has been put in an a2? that could have a twin exhaust, take the tt for example, but yes I no what you mean myn is only a 1.6. I think the same thing when I see a 1.0 citreon saxo with flip paint and a massive body kit and and rocket exhausts, so I no what you mean, but as I say I am happy with my choice how ever unnecessary it is. It doesnt sound ridiculous either its just right for me but I respect your oppinions and I did ask for them and did expect some stick about them:D Especially the bad job at the moment...

No, my comments weren't meant as some sticks. I was just pointing out how proper performance exhaust is supposed to be - meaning what would 'look' the business (regardless of effectiveness). You're missing the point on the 1.8T too, it is still a single bank, 4 pot engine. An ideal performance exhaust for that would be a single straight through pipe. if you get the idea of how it works, then you'll know why I said two exhaust doesn't have a 'performance' look that you may have been thinking.

In certain applications, exhaust configurations can add to a cars torque or power delivery, but the benefits are minimal.

For instance, the Mk1 TT was a 1.8T engine (we'll leave the 3.2V6 out of it for the moment) available as 180PS, 225PS and 240PS versions (as well as a cut-down 150PS for the run-out models).

In the lower power versions, the exhaust was on;y a single outlet - the engine was the same (with a few tweaks) and the same volume of exhaust gasses had to be expelled, so here, the twin outlets did help power.

In the A2 though, the extra weight of a second back box (not that you have one) and extra outlet will count against the performance of the car in general and just isn't worth it.

My system has maximised the flow rate of exhaust gasses and reduced back pressure to virtually zero, and saved weight too, as I've lost the heavy baffled silencer and reduced pipe work too.

Even if you did want to make folks think you have a 1.8T under the bonnet, you'd not need twin outlets, as the power of the engine would just turn the front tyres to smoke!

Ultimately, it's a fashion thing - nothing wrong with that, but as someone who doesn't bother in this area, I can't understand adding weight for no benefit other than aesthetics.

Cheers,

Mike

For the argument about twin pipes, Audi sells quite a few cars with 4cyl blocks with twin exhausts - the 1.8T (or 2.0T as it is now), and the 1.9TDi/2.0TDi models all now seem to have twin pipes at the back with separate final back boxes. Even having a v block motor (V6/8/10/12) with twin exhausts doesn't mean that at some point the pipes haven't come together - e.g. at the cat.

Scott, by the way, and please don't take this the wrong way, but I'd like to say that it's great to see you're posting in nice English now, good work on that.

No offence taken, I have a bit more time now to post and am trying a bit more, tho I am sure I stll miss some mistakes
Thanks

Scott

Well, I took the car back in Saturday and they basically just tried to get rid of me:mad: They said they had double booked me so couldn't "fit me in" so they said to phone back this week and try and book it in again! anyway I've changed my mind now and found another problem with the job! the exhaust tips aren't even!, one sticks out further than the other, and is quit noticeable  so when I book it in I am going to get that sorted for one. Second thing is I don't want them lifted right up anymore, I just want them raised so they aren't pointing down. The more I look at them the more I like the look of them, putting aside the bad job. I think regardless of them hopefully fixing it I'm going to complain about the bad job they have done, I paid a lot of money for them!

I am hoping to get to adi so hopefully you will get to see them then and maybe change your mind on what you think because the pics do nothing for them:)

I like the dual look, and I would have thought with minimal work you could addopt what has been doen to fit the Projektzwo rear end. This is a pic of my old one:

I like the look of that, how is the exhaust on the right lifted so high? do you have to cut away the toe eye or are they made to fit around it?

Thanks

Well here is the finished picture, I painted them black myself, they have been moved up about an inch, if you can notice!. I'm almost happy with them now, I think they look alot better painted but one day when I have time and money I will get them pulled out and raised ALOT higher but for now they will do:(.

i think it looks good mate, although perhaps abit OTT for a 1.4

but each to their own and I think all its missing is them being abit higher - but good things come to those who wait :D

Hey Shao Khan

Where can purchase a projetzwo rear end from? do they sell the kit individually or does it can as a full kit?

Cheers,

A2sport

type projetzwo into google and you should find it from their easy enuth, I had a look and they do come separate, expensive tho! but it does look good,
to expensive for me:D

i installed 63mm tubes from the turbo .. that was necesscary because of the increased flue gas volume with the 150HP .. and i wanted it in 3.0 TDI style. The sound is now for a diesel extrem agrassive, now the mashine sounds like it should for 150HP ;)
