I am concerned to hear of your other halfs problems, things have moved on since I was first diagnosed and the treatments are out there, unfortunately you may have to fight for them.
I am no expert but, keep up to date via the internet, there are some very good and helpful sites particularly BACUP. I have often been told that someone less articulate than myself would not have survived so long, i.e. fight for what you know is available, I had to enlist the support of my MP who was very helpful by going in at the top and demanding answers. Take whatever treatment is offered, most chemo is bearable, you don't always lose your hair, and in my experience the cancer specialists, nurses etc. are superb, the system is crap and conspires against them and the patients but they manage. Also your GP's knowledge of cancer is probably no better than your own (via internet). I think that once you are in the system at the hospital you will be well treated by experts, but don't let them drop you out, once out it's up to the GP to get you back in, and in my experience they don't.
Tell your other half to enlist all the support she can get, it helps, I have Cof E, Catholic, Hindu, Sikh, Methodist all praying for me, and I regularly discuss the situation with Holly my dog.I am always here for any help I can offer.
