Valuation

Hi everyone, we were wondering what the valuation of our a2 is. It's a 2004 fsi 1.6 colour storm blue petrol. We are a little confused about it's worth! We bought it a month ago but have had issues with the car and not sure if it's worth the work!

Hi,

A lot more information is needed to assess value. Specifically condition, mileage, spec level eg leather seats, date of cambelt renewal, service history to mention a few. Critically what are the car's issues?

Andy

It's a little difficult to say on CS FSI's, probably best to detail what the problems are, as sometimes (I make no promises here), seemingly big problems actually work out quite cheap after consulting with the "A2 Gurus" on here.

The car keeps misfiring, one garage spent 3 hours and stated that the problem is cylinder 4 but they can't seem to understand why. Currently at Audi garage where they have said the same thing and need to take it apart which is costing £400 Just for the privilege. It's done 93000 miles and the last owner had it for 12 years. She kept every receipt so we have the full history of the car and by the looks of it she has maintained it and spent a small fortune in doing so! She's the only owner the car has had before us.

Well as its an FSI I'm sure everyones thinking it I'm just going to say it "injector on cylinder 4" KAPUT..

Does the misfire get worse as the car gets warmer ?..

Yeah. I drove 30 miles today and the drove was smooth with no misfiring. But on other days it can do 15 miles and begin to misfire. The garage swapped the injectors and plugs etc bit couldn't figure it out so we're hoping Audi will be able to solve the mystery a little as they haven't as yet been able to come up with an answer. Just not sure if it's worth fixing or investing money in?

The FSI is a fickle beast.. once working there great but needs running on super unleaded constantly, I love mine but think if I had my time again I’d of gone for the diesel.. after all the engine code is BAD and FSI stands for f’in stupid invention..

Only yourself your patients and your bank balance will tell you if it’s worth it, however a working FSI is brilliant..

Good luck with it

Back from cooking the evening meal.

I can see this thread will become schizophrenic.

Valuation.

Thanks for the bits of information. One owner=good with full FSH=good, 93k =2/3 of lifespan not bad. (Why previous owner spent a fortune, presumably everything through Audi.) Pictures now help = looks standard spec. Still need answers to my earlier points and to add PDC(Parking Distance Control), rear electric windows (seems to matter but God knows why - I sit in the driver's seat.), space saver sparewheel and false floor?, full original toolkit?, tyre condition? to mention a few more. I have looked at every single advert for a FSI on eBay and gumtree in the last two years and I have no real idea of value, they randomly vary so much but I will venture a figure eventually given the information. Be honest about condition of paintwork. The Colour Storm aspect I discount, very much a marmite thing, probably invented by Audi Sales department to push a sales campaign, I prefer plain livery, each to their own (howls of derision from CS owners) and to my mind adds no value.

Mechanical Problem.

Do you get an engine management light on the dash? How noticeable is the misfire. Have you a scan test result. Are you sure the first garage swapped injectors (between cylinders or new on number 1?). It is not clear if the car was looked at by Audi or it is just a quote to think about. If it is a quote, don't do it. With the time that has passed and the rarity of the model I doubt if their mechanics have any more idea than anybody else and will simply replace with lots of new very very expensive parts and charge an arm and a leg labour rates. You are not that far from WOM ( an A2 specialist who know it inside out), take a day off work, book it in with them, pay reasonable labour rates and job sorted [I have no connection with WOM].

Andy

PS. My instinct was injector number 1, but BoxyA2 got in first. (Great minds think alike and fools seldom differ!!) or wiring fault to the injector, but surely they checked.
