Change to the Marketplace

Hi chaps. I just went to reply to a message on something in the market place but am told I dont have privileges to the marketplace. Ive not followed the forum updates for a while. What am i missing? Regards, M

I'll just not bother trying to sell anything here any longer. I've already binned one item whose post was deleted as I hadn't placed it the right section. I'd offered something in reply to a posting. Had I listed it as a for sale item in the marketplace, its almost certain the person it was intended to help wouldn't have been the first person to respond. It's simpler to list on eBay now, less bureaucracy.

There is a separate link at the top of the advert called "Discussion" that is the way to reply to the advert.

The logic being that adverts with replies on them soon become clogged up with those replies. This way the advert stays untouched so they are easy to read and find and yet you have a LINKED discussion that can be used for questions and chat etc.

The best of both worlds, but as with anything new it will take a little time to get used to.

Hi Ian,

On eBay you dont see the replies and questions and posts saying "that price is a good one" etc. Ebay is easier and clearer than the style we used to have because the advert was the advert, uncluttered. On our forum we used to have the adverts mixed in with replies and you completely lost track of the advert.

Look at my advert for Violet.
It has plenty of very welcome comments on it and many questions but the advert is masked slightly by these. We would not want to NOT have those great replies from helpful members and so we have simply come up with a solution, you can have BOTH.

It may look complicated at first but it is actually quite simple, you post your advert in the advert section and replies and discussions are in the LINKED discussion. SO you can reply to the advert and discuss it, but the advert stays clean. Please give it chance.

Im afraid that button doesn't appear on this thread. It was created pre changeover so im guessing thats the issue.
It is at the top left (not the very top) of every advert that has been transferred to the new marketplace, it takes a while and a lot of effort to transfer them so please bear with us.

As I say, many of the adverts have been converted and so they contain the required links (as below). It looks like yours is not yet converted.

Could you copy it and post it on the new setup perhaps?

I can understand the concerns and confusion, but I really beleive that adverts will be much clearer now and replies can still be posted on the linked discussion.

I’ve re-enables replies on the forum for now. Migrating the old adverts is a manual process, so don’t want to limit buyers interacting with advertisers.

And I’m loathe to migrate them all until we’ve resolved any teething issues.

I think that the effort of migrating them must be huge, so can't we just ask people to copy the advert onto the new format and delete the old one?

You must be working 26 hours ba day on this, anything that eases your workload should be considered.

I'm sticking with eBay in future. That's if I can even be bothered to sell any of the excess A2 parts I have. It would be less hassle to have a trip to the recycling centre with the lot of it. I'm not even going to bother reading the wanted posts anymore as I presume a reply there offering something would also get deleted as it's a sales post in the wrong section.
The old system was much simpler.

Hi
I am sorry that you feel that way but of course that is up to you. In fact it saddens me that such a great guy as you would feel that you have been unfairly treated. But the rules are there fir a reason and they are the same rules as before. Adverts need to be in the correct section. It is just s case of trying to keep everything in its place.
I am really sorry that this has upset you, I hope that you could possibly reconsider?

But all I can say is please don’t feel badly done to because a modetator simply applied the rules. That is what they are asked to do. After all we are all volunteers and all are just trying to do it fairly and apply those rules equally and consistently.

Please reconsider

I think what should concern the club is that paying members and indeed donors to the club have pulled there parts supply adverts as it is quite clear the new format only works for singular items, if I were to start a “boxys parts bin” what’s being advised by mods is I can offer a full car for parts in there but can’t advertise or upload pictures under the discussion thread as this then breaks the rules.

Thus leaving the ONLY way to sell parts on here by the letter of the law is to list every part I had or have for sale as a singular advert if all the guys parting end of life cars indeed did this it would generate 100s of adverts a day between us how would this be deemed easier as there would be pages of classified adverts some available some not as there is a considerable amount of items that have sold weeks ago but the thread still exists.

There is obviously an underlying reason for this change and stance by the club as whilst the old style wasn’t ideal it certainly worked for both scenarios of selling. I think you age old saying of not fixing something that isn’t broken springs to mind.

Maybe a house keeping task of deleting or archiving the “sold items” could of helped the cluttering problem that’s mentioned above.. all this being done also with no communication from the club as to what and why the change is necessary and schedule of work and what benefit the final outcome will indeed give us all has left sour tastes in a few mouth, and whilst I concede it’s the A2oc forum and your well within your rights to change and police the site as you deem fit I also note that the club only exists due to its members and donors..

There is no change that will stop you from listing your adverts exactly as you do now. You just carry on listing what you have for sale but on an advert that doesn’t get clogged with replies. The rules about prices on adverts has not changed.

When you post your advert exactly as you did before. The same rules apply. The difference being that the comments and questions etc are in the linked discussion area.

Please explain what you think has changed that will prevent you from listing multiple parts.

This new approach works exactly the same apart from the fact that you post the advert on the advert option and any discussions are posted on the linked discussion part.

You can edit your advert to add more, change the items or mark them as sold or remove them from the advert. So you have lost nothing.

Please explain what it is exactly that is causing you a problem and we can help explain.

Ok I get the concept maybe like I mentioned previously if this had been “press released” by the club a week or 2 before that the confusion may of been resolved before poor Ben having to do 25 hours a day on migration and answering angry questions, I’ve worked in IT 22 years and now consult for central government and a user base of 65,000 therefore I don’t make changes to the system as a surprise or without explanation and certainly with no communication..

I get the way it works but it’s those questions on the thread or me listing new items that would spark a flurry of activity as it would appear in “what’s new” I’m sure the rest would agree, it also keeps our adverts current in the market place..

Anything I list in future will be done as singular adverts to save any confusion or issue..

I don't feel unfairly treated or badly done to, it's just when someone mentions they need something in a post it seems exceptionally stupid that you can't offer it to them in the same post, but have to go and post it in the marketplace.

I just won't bother in future.

Ive just posted an item in my selling thread and this has bumped it up as a recent thread in the marketplace as it would have before.

If this is how it works (and it stays that way) then I now cannot see what the issue is.

New items added to one of the big sellers threads will then bump it up (as any new add would) and it's just the replies that will no longer clog up the forum.

It is a bit confusing I have to say, I think the issue is that it's not intuitive like it used to be. However, what I CAN see happening is that instead of the "For Sale" threads clogging up the forum, it'll be the "Discussion" threads that will clog up the forum just as much...
