Bespoke Branded Footwell Mats Group Order

Hello all,

I thought I'd move the list to the very start of the thread for easier viewing.

Here's the list below which will be updated periodically to show you the I have captured your interest. I'll revise the list over the next few days to ensure its fit for purpose but this should suffice for now:

As you've come to understand from pervious dealings, this Group Order is of course yet another zero profit venture. I'll be paying exactly the same for my mats that you are for yours. My time working in the background for you is free of charge, a way of giving back to the community I both enjoy and serve.

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon all,

Ive not yet started to produce the payment PMs as Im still not happy with the Club logo embroidery swatch design.

The text along the bottom still isn't right as I first thought it was Audi Type Extended Font. After a little searching I think I have worked out that the font is actually LondonBridge-Bold font.

Below is what I propose to have as part of the embroidery design:

Screen Shot 2022-02-26 at 13.16.31.png

Before I transmit this information to the embroidery company I feel it right to get a collective understanding of this London-Bridge font as a solution. It isn't perfect but sits as a great second pace. Does anyone know the exact font used within our Club logo?

The end is in sight but its these little details that need to be correct before mass production commences. Please do feel free to add comment

Kind regards,

Tom

To my eyes the London Bridge version is the clearer.
Given it's location, there's nothing close by to highlight the difference in fonts.
I'm sure I'd be happy with LB.
What font does the A2OC number plate surrounds use?
Mac.

Evening Mac,

That is a very good question Sir, unfortunately it’s one I’ve not been able to answer. All the information I had for the number plate surrounds was lost on an old laptop which gave up a few years ago.

The person I obtained the information from back then has also moved on so these small but important details are difficult to finalise.

I’ll continue my investigations tomorrow, I’m sure we’ll get there with a more than acceptable solution in the coming days.

Thanks for jumping in as any assistance is always gratefully received.

Kind regards,

Tom

Morning all,

Another option for the font is Microsoft Sans Serif as suggested by Ian @Proghound over PM.

Here's the difference between them:

Not much but I'm getting closer to a final decision, leaning towards the MS Sans Serif as its slightly closer to the original font used. I'm sure either will do as I guess some of the crisp detail will be lost during the embroidery process.

Once I've decided which font to go for, I will then get Dan at Simply Car Mats to get a sample produced and sent to me. Pictures will be uploaded onto this thread for comment.

I'll only ask for payment once I'm (we're) happy with all aspects of this venture. The end is very close though and I look forward to having a set of these in my fleet.

Kind regards,

Tom

I'd be happy with London Bridge, or the MS Sans Serif.
Once transfered to embroidery, I suspect the soft rendering would mean that you would not see any difference (just my opinion).
Mac.

Comparing the fonts to the original, I think London-Bridge looks better, Sans Serif is a bit tall and narrow. Although, I agree that as embroidered text both would look great and similar enough to the original.

I did think the shape of the E was better in sans serif, but it does seem that the font has been squashed vertically and allowed to expand widthways instead, by a little.

Evening all,

I’m slowly getting to a resolution with the embroidery detail and quality. It seems that the font had not been changed and this is the way that it was interpreted by the digital embroidery machine itself.

To counter this I’ll be cutting the standard start away from the bottom of the logo and adding new text with Microsoft Sand Serif to see if the embroidery machine can produce a better looking sample. I’m sure an hour on photoshop will see it all done which I’ll get to tomorrow evening.

The end is near and I’ll be calling for payments but please bear with me whilst I finalise the quality of the finish for our footwells.

I’m informed by Dan at Simply Car Mats that once these issues are ironed out then production will be pretty quick and sent to me in no time.

Thanks for waiting so far and I’m sure you’ll all be happy once this venture has made its way to your A2.

Kind regards,

Tom

It's late in the day to be asking this, but has anyone already purchased a set of mats of the proposed standard from this supplier?

I ask because my own experience of buying a set of mats from a third party was not good. After some discussion on this forum, I ordered a new set of mats from the RAC shop in October 2018. Top of the range spec, cost me £56 the set.

Unfortunately the mats, when they arrived, simply would not fit properly, and I (thankfully) was able to return them for a full refund. It would be fair to say that the RAC were less than happy though.

Things can go wrong and sometimes they do. This is a large order involving a lot of money, and you need to either have a clear agreement with the manufacturer covering such problems, or preferably buy a sample mat ahead of committing to such a substantial order.

Evening Steve,

Sorry to hear your past experience with RAC and glad you was refunded. You raise a good point. I asked this very question to the community at the start of the thread with no comeback and have since proceeded without a set here to test fit.

I have been assured by Dan (Simply Car Mats) that the sets they provide fit perfectly but can ask for a sample set in the morning which I’m sure they’ll agree to as it is such a large order.

Will you be joining us on this venture or just dropping in out of concern. There is room for another 3 sets to take us to 35 (the delivery costs involved are per 5 sets)

Kind regards,

Tom

I won't be joining you I'm afraid I'm actually very happy with my OEM originals which, despite being over 20 years old, still look pretty much like new.

Here's the thread from 2018 where I ordered the set from the RAC shop:

Hi again Steve,

Thanks for the helpful input and advice. I’ll get a picture of the proposed mats fitted in Project OEM this coming week to satisfy anyone who might now be alarmed by your comment.

As I have said before on this thread, I’ll not be asking for any funds from anyone until I’m completely satisfied that what we’re purchasing is the very best it can be.

Should the mats not fit then I know this supplier can cut the mats to our needs as they’re already providing LHD A2 mats within this group order from a template that a fellow member has sent them.

Thanks again for your concern.

Kind regards,

Tom

Tom, is there an update on this pls?

Ian
Morning Ian,

Hope all is well with you and yours.

Unfortunately no end date right now. In the background I’m still working on getting the embroidered logo perfected, which I hope is completed either this week or next.

This delay is due to a slight font change on the full text at the bottom of the logo to see if it can improve the final look. It’s an experiment at the moment which should have been solved by now.

Once the embroidery team have made the adjustments then it should be a very quick process getting the whole consignment shipped to me.

I’ll come back soon as I have more details Sir.

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon all,

Something I’ve been meaning to get to you is a picture of a set of mats from Dan at Simply Car Mats which hasn't happened so far, apologies. I’ve actually had a set of mats here for a while now and only just popped outside to check fitment.

Apologies for also letting this thread be without update for a while as I personally thought we'd already have what we desired already fitted but I will get there, I’m not giving up on this venture as it’s shows such promise.

Dan is still working with the embroidery team to perfect the embroidered logo swatch which looks better than the first attempt which I revealed some time ago.

Here’s the mats fitted into a rather dirty Project OEM:

As you can see they are a perfectly fit and even the aftermarket fixings work faultlessly with the factory studs to hold them in place, they pop into place exactly as the factory variety. What I have fitted here are of their cheapest offering (standard) to check fitment only and I can only say that they are as good quality as my factory carpeted mats. I assume the Super Deluxe will be extremely elegant with the more luxurious thickened carpet used.

This venture is so close to the end with only the embroidery to be perfected. I'll keep this thread more up to date for you all so you know where I am at with proceedings and when I'm about to send out the payment information over individual PMs.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hello again,

As this thread has been running for a while now then there might be members out there who may have already fitted a replacement set of mats which in-turn will reduce the amount required to obtain the 35% discount available to us.

I think this venture is very close to the end so just want to confirm that everyone on the list is still interested.

Can you please confirm that you're still wishing to be part of this group order, absolutely no problem if you have since changed your mind as this has of course been going on for a while now. I just need to understand how short I might be from securing the grand total of 30 for the 35% discount.

A reply to this thread with a thumbs up or a simple like to this post would would be all that is needed I think.

I'm certain that these will be fitted into our footwells before April closes.

Kind regards,

Tom

My original branded mats are in fantastic condition. I’m a sucker for our ‘new’ logo though, so I’ll add my name to the mix if there is still a place available. If they last half as good as the ones I have, they’ll be great value at the price.

Afternoon Darren,

Yes there is space as there isn’t a maximum here, just a minimum figure to obtain the 35% discount.

Welcome aboard Sir. Could I trouble you for a colour choice, guessing black but what about edging/perimeter trim colour along with adding a carpeted heel pad.

Kind regards,

Tom
