Hi all. I've spotted an A2 I'm interested in for sale Milton Keynes way and am hoping one of you experienced person would be interested in joining me to give it a good once over? It's from a garage and from the photos and details looks great, but I'm not assuming anything! Could pick you up and drop you off and even get you some lunch! I'm planning to drive up from Bristol Saturday am. Let me know if you're interested 😁 🤞

If its the red Fsi it looks lovely but you are right to ask for help......

The MOT from October 22 shows advisories for both suspension arms plus discs and pads all round.....

Plus, it’s an FSI with 112k on the clock for £2,490! By which I mean, based on the pictures it looks lovely. But the genuinely accepted rule with FSI’s seems to be that once they pass 100k they are entering the winter of their lives. Certainly there are very few recorded that have lived beyond 160k.

Whilst there will be exceptions to every rule, if this is your first foray into the world of A2’s and your not VERY mechanically minded and happy to complete work yourself, just by reading the MOT history I, think this might be one to save the petrol money on personally.

As long as the flaps are clear and the coolant pipes are renewed they can last a while but if they lose a coolant pipe they’re goosed.

Thanks. Happy to spend out to sort issues. Brakes and suspension jobs I'll get the good local garage nearby to do, I will not be doing this myself!! ☺️. I'm lucky in that I don't need the car to get to work or anything important really.

I'd suggest you take someone with you who has both had an FSI for a long time themselves, and has the VCDS software to scan it with. That's going to be a long shot for a start. Then, you can see the lacquer peel starting on the tops of the front wings, and I note there are no photos where you can see the roof. I think you might be disappointed mechanically or cosmetically or both, if you were to make the effort.

Remember to check the EML light comes on with the ignition and turns off with the engine running. The DIS for missing pixels and that the stereo does work. Yes the paint looks glossy, perhaps too glossy with the lacquer peel and that may not be the worst of it.
Usual trader porkies.. not a five seater.

The usual lacquer peel, kerbed alloys, switch gear wear, possible rear bumper crack, cloudy headlights and possible clever camera angles to avoid issues.

Then has it been run on the correct fuel?

A long way to go for this car at the price. I personally feel you are jumping onto the first car that "looks" good and it is an FSI. Read up everything you can on whichever version that you would like and then make short list of possible candidates.

Sorry it seems we are all advising caution, me too. A2s are not very complicated but the FSi is the most complicated of the bunch. They need specialist knowledge, and running on posh petrol only. Changing suspension arms can lead to all sorts of grief if a thread strips. It’s a long way from the West Country to MK! It is all too easy to be seduced by a smart paint job when the heart takes over. A period of regret often follows. Ask me how I know!

I firmly believe, if you want an Fsi, get a cheap project car & spend some money to do all the usual Fsi issues & cam belt etc get it to tip top condition & enjoy it.
Perhaps even invest on a Proboost ECU etc etc, and still have money left over. rather than pay a lot of money, bring the car home & find yourself spending more money to solve regular up coming Fsi issues.

And I think you have the very car, correct? 😃

FSIs are complex, but it's all logical, if you take the time to read up on the engine control system and mapped cooling circuit. You'll need a vag specific scan tool, and I'd recommend VCDS.
I'd have to share the same concern at the mileage, and a price that's not inline with it.
If you go the project route, there's a few FSI aficionados on here.
Mac.
